Pakistaboy Are you happy with it? :D Mine is from 2006 (the P1 like in the video, not the XP9) and it's still near perfect, no problems at all, the engine still runs so well. Though I crashed it into another car 2012 and almost the whole front up to the engine had to be redone. Other than that, the only real incident was a dead waterpump in 2015. I will probably drive this car till it's dead, wonder when that will be, 170k miles so far, love it. Edit: Oh and it's the 1.4 D-4D (75HP Diesel) and does around 50 miles per gallon lol

I still own it, for 17 years exactly, i only replaced the transmition, suspecting because it's French-built. For a single-liter engine it runs pretty good, and faster than any rivals. Everyone who sits inside thinks it's 1.3, and it has 340k on the clock

Today: Giant screen with lots of applications to distract you and located in the middle of the dash where you would expect a gearleaver. Oh yeah only place to show youre current speed as well.

Had mine for 10y, '99, 50hp. Last year we had to sell her as we moved the country. We all gazed with awe and tears in our eyes when we've seen her leave. Days after the selling my heart stopped when i was looking where she supposed to be and she wasn't there. 10y not once in service. The longest trip in one day more than 1100km. Slow but amazingly fun to drive. Waiting for her little big brother atm. Yaris x. Out of respect for her we went full options with this one as we don't plan to change him for the next 10y. What other car can you say the same in 2022....and not being japanese...if you still have one I envy you but not for long though 😊

JegoBun I've just bought one that's been in one family for 16 years, with proof that the last oil change was in 2016, 18,000 miles ago - I paid very little for the car. It's needed a de-sludging oil additive not once, but twice on oil changes. Their engines have chain driven timing, which costs four times the price of conventional rubber belts, and demand oil changed or they can stretch or snap and destroy the engine when starved of regular oil and filter changes. I agree, they are bullet proof engines, but your Mum will find out what happens when an engine locks itself up at the wheels when it seizes up solid, when she least expects it. Go on, tell her it'll sound like a Swiss watch again, and deserves an oil change treat :-)

in just 2 years of driving i had all 2000 made models of cars. Merc A140 avantgarde 1.4 VW polo 1.4E MK3F and a rarther tatty 98' vw polo mk3 1.0. oh and the best one and still have. my toytota yaris 1.3 SR . TTE pakage on it, so TTE spoiler, TTE sports exhaust. 15 inch TTE alloy wheels, and in the same dark blue as in this video, looks fab, hammond is right the VVTI engine is tuned more to economy, no wonder why it gets around 8 mpg more than a 1.0 or 1.2 standard engines of or even the 1.4E engine in my VW polo. but push the acclerator to the floor and it will not only drink petrol, but at 3000rpm, that valve timeing changes, and you feel it. despite being sat in a more chair position (like in a MPV or Van , or Merc A140), it feels increadbly fast even at 30mph, compared to the more popular VW polo., due to its low center of gravity. MY 6ft 6 mate sat comftably in the back, (allthough a front passanger with short legs has to sit in the front as the glove box crushes up to their knees). and when i want to pick up a new applience, i can fold the back seats down, roll them over, the headrests and the boot lid all can stay in the car without haveing to sit in your footwell or the compleatly flat floor space, big enough for a washing machine or dryer, (somthing that a women with a modern 2015 ford fiesta was suprised at, stateing how much larger it is that her boot space). serviceing is cheap, tyres are £45 a piece, and averaging realistically 40MPG, really good on fuel.

@@toxy3580 just had mine welded to add another 20 ;) I've got 2 Yaris'. One is a 99 1.3 which has no rust, the other a 2001 1.0 which has needed a bit of welding. Neither has ever let me down... The 1.0 I bought for a family member about 5 years ago, £250 with 100k on the clock. It's now at nearly 200k and has been from the south coast to Scotland and everywhere in between multiple times and never missed a beat. Never expected it to last this long. Couldn't bring myself to scrap it. Now my second motor. I'm thinking of getting the 1.3 sprayed with anti corrosive stuff. The hubnut channel had this done to one of his cars and it only cost £270. Seems like a decent investment. Good to hear this Yaris stories!

I guess you're not familiar with the FACT that most Japanese and Korean manufacturers do have/apply European R&D. Particularly, for obvious reasons, for their European line of products. About >300 million potential clients make for those odds! ;-) Those touches can be seen, from the buttons on the dashboard to seats arrangement and a vast etc. That's something that's been going on for quite a number of years... Let alone the fact that many of these "Asian" cars are also manufactured in Europe!

This was one of the last cars with a soul and character to it. As ugly as it was inside-out, it just felt like a funny car to drive. Many cars today have this and that but don't have a personality. It was also a very easy car to live with, both in city and on long trips, with surprisingly relaxing and comfortable seats - even though visually the seals looked like the cheapest ever. The very slow steering and the horrible interior plastics and dash design were the weak points. Toyota redesigned this model in 2005 and put a very cheap suspension and uncomfortable seats, taking away all the fun of the older model.
