That point about making people smile reminds me of the first day my Dad and I picked up our NB. We were stopped at the lights, roof down, this 6-7 year old kid in an SUV next to us was smiling and talking to us until the light went green. I will never forget that, best memory in my car so far.

A lot of people are into NAs for the pop ups and the community but to be honest I would rather pick up the NB if I had the chance

Great review! Interesting to see some of the differences up close in the interior to my 2003 NB2 Miata. It's my favorite car out of the 3 I've owned. I'm thinking it'll be even better once my T25 turbo is slapped on :D

Good video. I also have a 99. White with tan top. I agree with you. I love my Miata too...The only thing wrong with mine is the headlights, not because they don’t go up and down, but they are blurry. I tried to polish them, but I made it worse. That’s one thing that makes the pop ups better, they are old style round glass bulbs. Oh well...

Headlight restoration kits are fairly inexpensive. Alternatively, some low grit polishing compound and a little elbow grease will take the yellowing away. That’s what I did with my ‘99 NB.

Great review Zack! There's another stock Miata that I'd like to see you review if you get the opportunity. The Mazdaspeed NB version...very similar to the NB you're driving, but comes with a factory turbo and better suspension. I have a '97, so it's the last revision of the NA (they skipped a year between 97 and 99, so there are no '98 models). My '97 also has the interior light above the rearview mirror, but I have an analog odometer - that NB has a digital odometer.

On a side note...have you ever driven a BMW Z3 or Z4? Would like to know how it compares to the S2000 and Miata. I've ridden in a Z4 but never driven any.

I think the NA definitely looks better or more “interesting” if you will. But if I wanted to build a track Miata for real performance I would pick the NB

...But it's the same thing...they literally share the same chassis and whatever 'improvements' the NB had stock can be swapped over to the NA or just plain out upgraded with aftermarket parts.

@@wajalama that’s not entirely accurate, all NB improvements can’t simply be swapped over to an NA body, not without some moderate custom fabrication anyway. And anyone who thinks the NA is a better looking car is just drunk on the pop-up headlight Koolaid. The NB is clearly not only a more sensuous and interesting shape, but more aerodynamic as well.

@@LateNightCable Maybe I should clarify. "Most" of the chassis updates found on the NB can be transferred over to the NA, and whatever cannot is usually supplemented by the aftermarket (ie: Flying Miata's undercarriage butterfly frame brace). The overall differences between the two chassis are so negligible that Spec Miata hardly has any rules barring the 2 generations from competing in the same group. As for your opinion on the NB looking better, well...that's just an opinion. But everyone knows that NA's are the ones that are the most sought after in the marketplace in the end.

I'm 5'9. I'm on the thin side so I can't speak too much for how wider people manage but height wise, I fit just fine. I'd guess anyone 6 foot or over is going to start having a hard time

@@mariomanningfan where there’s a will there’s a way. I’m 6’6” but slim, and I drive my ‘99 NB fairly comfortably, even though my knees are all up in the dash. Even top up, my head clears.

The answer is always Miata😊
