Remember this game. Had come to Bangalore during school holidays. Watched the match at home with my cousins. Those were the days when there was a cricket match, the roads used to be empty. Sad that people started throwing bottles in the ground.

Kumble was his partner. The problem with India was that they never played 4th and 5th specialist bowlers and depended on Sachin, Saurav, Jadeja, Kanitkar, Sehwag, Yuvraj or Badani to bowl 6-7 overs.

Despite shit team India still managed to win many matches and some tournaments in 90s. Credit goes to Sachin for becoming batting heavyweight and Azhar for sharp captaincy with limited bowling attack. The whole structure of cricket selection sucked big time then and was plagued with nepotism. The great thing Ganguly did was to bring players from other parts of India which would have never made to the team had he not supported and nurtured them. Dhoni reaped the benefits of the groundwork did before him. I think the Indian team between 2000-2006 was really good and perbaps the beat team. Young cricketers came who were not shy of batting and bowling aggression. The killer instinct which india lacked was filled. Also that was still a time when criclet rules did not heavily favored batsmen and every team.still had world class bowlers. So that Indian team was second only to the great Australian team. Although now India might be best team but the level of International cricket has gone down so deep that its doubtful whether these players could have managed to win anything if they played against those world class players of that era. I used to enjoy fast bowlers. Now I have literally stopped watching cricket due to the joke of fast bowling that is now. And No reverse swing thanks to idiotic cricket rules. Thanks ICC BCCI IPL for desteoying cricket. Now we will never see the likes of Lara or Ambrose or Flintoff or mcgrath etc. All playesr care now is playing in different tournaments make money. Its all fast pace style now with rules favoring batsmen. Why even bother having test cricket?

On early 90s India won tournament or matches because of Sachin and Azhar batting most of the matches either Sachin will be top scorer or Azhar will be top scorer . Also due to some quick runs down the order by Kapil and his all round performance.Also because of bowling efforts by Kumble we won Titan cup and hero cup . Players other than these failed big time.in late 90s fate changed after Ganguly and dravid came but this match both of them failed

I've never seen prasad's attacking or aggressive bowling against any team. He got wickets only due to batsmen mistakes and not by his good bowling

Must say there is a big gap in skills levels of the two teams - Pakistan had depth of bowling and batting .. where in Indian team looked lack of talent .. The eventual turn of Ganguly leadership after couple of years turned it around for Indian cricket - It saw the arrival of the likes Sehwag, yuvraj , strengthened indian batting , and Zaheer , Agarkar, balaji and irfan khan filled the gaps in bowling department

Disgraceful crowd behavior. This wasn’t the first time it happened. Very unsportsmanlike.

This isn't high voltage drama! its like you buy a 'Sutli Bomb' (the green color threaded bomb) and it bursts like a small 'Tikli' . India fizzed out , like how we call during Diwali season, 'Tuss Pataski'. I was there on the ground that day, some folks from the southern stand threw bottles at players when Indian batsmen were falling like dominoes. Back in the 90s, ind-pak was more than cricket, there was politics and terrorism and many other things involved and people had a lot of hatred. Same with Eden Park, Kolkatta during 96WC. Infact due to that incident, other towns started to disrupt matches. Only Chennai , Chidambaram stadium was respectful to Pak. this one test match which i saw in the 90s in Chennai, Pakistan had won a close test match and India collapsed dramatically that 5th day. After the last Indian wicket fell, Chennai crowd applauded Pakistan's bowling effort which was too good that day. Pakistan players took a lap of honor , lead by wasim akram and waved and thanked the crowd for being supportive of cricket and both teams. crowds in australia and england were fans of good cricket too, didn't matter who the team is. viv richards, ian botham, kapil dev, wasim akram were all loved by many. they knew their cricket and applauded good efforts like sixes, spectacular catches, century etc. even some players gave their best effort at those magnificent huge green grounds.

I was ten years old at that time but I remember well. Ramesh would consume thousands of deliveries to score a fifty. Because of that, he was relegated only to tests. Several years later, he was dumped for good.
