1999 Dodge Dakota RT 5.9 Start Up, Custom Exhaust, and In Depth Tour

In this video I give a full in depth tour on a 1999 Dodge Dakota RT 5.9 with custom side exhausts. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration with an exhaust clip. A thorough review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

    I totally agree, I’ve always wanted a Dodge Dakota with either a 318 or a 360. A lot of people don’t consider the 318 a solid engine but it’s most definitely a good Bullett proof engine that is even more powerful if you turn it into a stroker motor, you can bolt on a set of 360 heads to a 318 as well. I would love to own a 2-door Dakota 318/360 standard.

    I've always wanted a dodge Dakota with a 318 or 360. With nice exhaust & headers, maybe a purple mopar cam & some nice Mickey Thompsons slicks on the back & a nice mopar performance sticker on the back window & go demolish some cocky mustangs lol

    Good luck finding a purple cam for these. You'd have to convert it to a flat tappet and that requires AMC lifters and pushrods, as well as an LA style water pump and timing cover. I'd just quicker get a comp cam or a Hugh's cam.

  • @JETZcorp

    @JETZcorp

    9 жыл бұрын

    The gas mileage is a bear in these. Chrysler decided that instead of installing a knock sensor, they'd just tune 'em rich in open-loop. Then once all the plenum gasket complaints started coming in, they started giving out the PCM "death flash" that retarded timing across the board, hurting power and economy. And it takes an act of Congress to activate DFCO on a Magnum engine. And there's no EGR on 2nd-gen Dakotas. I seriously think it'd get better mileage with a well-tuned four-barrel. I love my stupid Dakota though. I pull it out when I don't mind burning gas and kicking ass; I leave hypermiling to the 1.5L Honda.

Currently have a 3.9 v6 2001 dodge ram regular cab and I'd love an extended cab with a v8 in it...thinking about swapping in a 5.2 v8 into my truck since I heard it's really easy for the most part, apparently the 3.9 is just a 5.2 with two less cylinders. Not sure how well the v6 transmission would hold up though with the much stronger v8...

    Aayden Gornick rode in the back of an S10 manual, that thing was throwing me all over the place. I imagine a 5.9 manual would be pretty harsh. If you are looking for another minivan, the Chrysler 3.3 is good just get one with the good transmission I think it's a 3+1 with O/D. I bought one for work and has plenty of torque and still runs smoothly @251k. It does consume oil if driven hard, I believe the Piston rings are worn and front end will need bushings & ball joints. It's still reliable as long as I check oil levels weekly.

    All Dakota's needs slotted and drilled front rotors though that's the one bad with them they warp easy but once you put slotted and drilled rotors they're fine

    @TheCottonTop I don't get what you mean about the front and rear bumpers. The only difference with the R/T is you get the sport package standard, which includes painted front and rear bumpers, the bumper itself is the same. And the grill is the same crappy black plastic they have on them all. Also, how can you tell it's a 5.2 under the hood, the small blocks are all the same size. Well with the VIN, this guy can find out for sure. Not bashing you, just curious on your theory.

    Looking at one locally for sale with 5.9 (as advertised) but is 4 door and chrome grill, the true R/T 5.9 is color match grill and bumper only?

    Eh, there isn't anymore plastic inside of it than any import. I've had mine for 10 years and despite its plastic appearance nothing is falling apart... Can't say the same for my buddies 3 series Bimmer that is 10 years old. :)

    easy man! i realized it was sarcasitic, it was a simple statement. and yes, it seems strange to ask a question answered in the title. what annoys me is sometimes people seeming not to read the description. i usually to always do and people just talk about whatever like its not taken care of; and yes there is such thing as a V4 but they are very uncommon. and it is hard to express tone including sarcasm through typing but i knew what you meant. peace man. :)

    @Projective A truck like that usually gets customized personalized radios dash inserts amps speakers leather seats alot of stuff industry standards dont allow for. lowering kits suspension mods custom wheels and exhaust sys . If Dodge put those into these trucks and cars you would be able to pay for a Viper a Corvette or one of those Euro crap baskets. Buy it and personalize it the way you want
