1999 Chevy Silverado 2500 Transmission Shift Issues Pt.4 of 4 (New Cable)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Part 4 of 4: removal of old cable, install, adjustment and testing of new cable.
If this video seems like it has allot of jumps, it is because I edited several parts out where I wasn't talking, dropped the camera, or let a curse word slip(I try and avoid having my videos flagged for stuff like that). However, there is none of the important stuff missing.

Thanks! This video is just what I needed.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this information! God bless!
I totally agree with what you said at the end of the video. That is why I try to work on my own vehicles as much as possible.
My 98 2500 W/T won't go into 3 2 or 1 and now is starting to get stupid about shifting into drive. I'm going to take a look at the Shifting cables. Thanks for the great video

Spring clip, new GM cable doesn't come with one
What was the reason for the cable replacement??
@ 8:30 you show that the cable is properly adjusted. After doing the entire cable's replacement, the shifter moves through the full range from "R" to "1". However, coming back up to Park the shifter does not return to "P". The cable is loose, any suggestions? Your video shows no remedy for the problem.

I'm having that very problem today. Did you figure out a solution?

Mine is the opposite, I can get to all the gear positions except for the low gear. I tried every position on the adjuster and can't find the correct position.

If it won't go to Park, shorten the cable housing. If it won't go into 1st, lengthen the housing.
I put a new cable set in my truck and can't figure out how to adjust it to hit all shift points? ( won't drop into 1 ) and the shifting is now sloppy? Anything will help at this point.

I would not be inclined to say that the cable is causing sloppy shifting. If your cable is misadjusted you will simply not be able to shift to a particular gear or you will be in a different position from what is indicated. If you are experiencing "sloppy", delayed or harsh shifting then in my experience you have larger problems with your transmission. Possibly a solenoid is failing/leaking by. Hope this helps.

@@Ducatislave I don't think anything is going on with the trans. I put a new cable on because it was getting very stiff to shift from park to drive. After I pulled the old cable down and inspected it I found that where the 2 connected was rusted. So somehow I have to get it adjusted so I can utilize all shift points, and tighten up between the shifter and the trans. Thanks

@@brianfelt9138 did you figure out how to fix it? I'm having that exact same issue with not finding gear 1 even after trying to adjust it.
I cannot get that connector at 7 minutes in with the clip to re attach.
Just did mine. Do not buy a cheap one, they are not the right length. My truck left me in the middle of nowhere, freezing and rainy. Got it home fixed it and sold it.
For some reason my new lower cable didn’t want to snap on the the little nipple thing where the cable connects to tranny. Was I not pushing it in hard enough or?

No, it should click in fairly easy, unless you had a lot of gunk on there which may have gotten in the female/upper cable end. Your spring clip may not be in correctly.

S. Buffum - Replaced my lower cable today on a 2012 Tahoe. It worked fine for a couple shifts from P, R and D. When I got home and put it back into park and I tried to put it in reverse it got sloppy again. And now is acting like it was before. However, the bushing side is still in place. Do I need to just adjust the tension again? When we joined the cables we had it in Manual, then joined the cables then put it in park to finish the connection. Do I need to redo that step with what you showed in the last video? Release the bushing end and adjust the spring side until the cable lines up itself? Hope this makes sense to you! Love the videos, they are very helpful!!
