Mine’s is still alive. 25 years old now. Ended up married to a pager from Hull. Two little Nokias of their own now. Never bleeding calls home cept for new batteries.

Can confirm, I spent an entire summer calling my local toyshop every single day to ask if they had them in stock yet. After about 4 weeks of this, they finally did, and I literally ran all the way there to buy a couple for myself and my sister lol.

The fact they call it a computer game and call the tamagotchis birds reminds me of the news report on the NES were they say that there's only 2 types of games. Things really have changed.
There was a televised news report in '98/'99 about a young girl who was in tears because her Tamagotchi pet had died. So she buried the device in the back garden. The 14 year old me at the time thought "what an idiot! You know there's a reset button, right?"

Remember Nintendo Game & Watch? Remember the Game Boy?? In fact, do you remember books??? 🤣
And here I am, in my twenties on Boxing Day 2023, feeding my pet Tamagotchi alien like I did as a child. Oh dear. My brother got me it as a joke gift, but I am enjoying the nostalgia, lol.
I found my tamagotchi connect and I’m having a blast
Saw this, straight over to Amazon and buying two, one for me and one for my daughter..
Man I remember my tamagotchi!!!
I have to say that the nostalgia/iconic factor of this videos kind of goes away when you have such good quality video records from the 90s onwards :)
'working lunch' was so much better than 'politics live' or whatever it's called.
Oh man, I wouldn’t have seen working lunch but I think I saw this exact video clip on a later news segment? Tamagotchis we’re massive though. I was 11, and my friend and I told our parents we were going to ride our bikes after school, but instead ran to the train station and got a train to Croydon to buy tamagotchis we got in so much trouble for staying out late but neither of us cracked. To this day I don’t think my mum knew I had a tamagotchi
I remember when I got it for christmas in the 90s. I dont remember which year exacly. But I was playing it for a long time. It was really fun. Thanks to my brother Thomas, who bought me. Excuse me, the Santa :P
It was so addictive to play

Wow, I never really understood what these things were when they came out and I was 6 years old. Guess it's time to find out!
I remember some people having them back when I was in junior school, such a long time ago
Bizarre! 😆 I was 22 then and probably a bit old to have wanted one.
'It's my lover...'. Ah, young love with a small digital display. I wonder if they are still together. Maybe this partly explains the falling birth rates in Japan.
my childhood toys :’) i’m 26 now so this is what i played with in elementary school ❤
Ickle Adrian Chiles!
I had one, some people took theirs to secondary school.
I worked at a children's theme park at this time and there was a girl who had one and was obsessed with it. So excited when it took a dump - truly bizarre.
I had a few. They were cute.
i still play mine !!
I got anxiety when mine kept dying all the time
Even my Grandmother had one of these.
I had a Tamagotchi 🤩

Fun Fact: Tamago = jap. for "Egg"
@krashd
Жыл бұрын
So Tamagochi means egg-one?
@TangoBunnie
Жыл бұрын
To complete the fact, a watch (the thing that tells you the time, not a lookout) is pronounced like 'watchi' in Japan. The Tamagotchi is wordplay for 'egg watch' - that's why the early designs had clock numbers on the shell and a 'cracked egg shell' design for the screen.
i wonder if these things were as boring as they look. I just can't comprehend what the deal with these things is, I just don't.... Also, now I finally know where Daze's song (I'm Your Tamagotchi) comes from, that it used to obsess me when it came out and which I hummed incessantly back then...

@@the_real_glabnurb That's definetly not true. I had one (plus several knock-offs) and so did a lot of people at my school, boys included. They were a fun fad that a lot of people enjoyed, like Pogs or when yo-yos blew up again for some reason and half the school could do tricks with one. I don't think anybody claimed it was a Game Boy replacement. Tamagotchis came out a year before Pokemon Red/Blue, which was also huge at my school.
