1997 NBA Finals Game 1, Jordan 31 pts and buzzer beater

Спорт

High quality version: • 1997 NBA Finals Game 1...
Jordan hits the game winning shot in game 1 of the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. He also put in 31 points on 13/27 shooting, had 4 rebounds, and had 8 assists.
Karl Malone was the MVP of the regular season that year, and he jokingly said he was just "borrowing it from Jordan." Jordan, however, was the one who came up with big plays down the stretch to ensure a Chicago victory.
This is the game where Scottie Pippen famously tells Karl Malone, "the mailman doesn't deliver on a sunday," before Malone shoots and misses 2 free-throws at the end of the game that would have given Utah the lead.

If you listen carefully, on the last play there is tremendous buzz and excitement in the crowd. Its really loud. Then, when Jordan shoots the last shot, when the ball is in the air, the crowd collectively goes silent, and then erupts when it goes in. Sends chills down my spine every time. No doubt the best ever.

Wow how crazy it felt like i watched this yesterday. I'm a die hard Knick fan i hated the bulls but always respected MJ and this is why we never won a championship. During his time he was the greatest ever. No one executed shots like MJ and work the court like he did. Kobe and Labron just bow down to the king.

Jordan literally had it all: he was very fundamentally sound and he had the greatest set of athletic skills I have ever seen. Not only could he shoot the jumpshot, defend your best player, drive to the hoop with ease (against better defenses that handchecked and played zone but called it perfect defensive rotation), but he was also able to palm the ball like it was a fruit, he had tremendous body control, ridiculous quickness, phenomenal vertical leap and superb basketball IQ. He was the GOAT.

Jordan, Rodman and Pippen were three extremely driven individuals/players. You could see it in their eyes when they played, and they are also very smart. You don't see these kinds of players anymore. Kobe comes close, and there are some others, but not many. I think it's mostly today's culture, and the money that comes with it. Like Rodman said in his interviews back in the day, the players nowadays, he doesn't respect, because they don't respect the game of b-ball. So true.

My favourite Jordan buzzer beater. So underrated. Also...anyone else realize that MJ bookended the two Bulls/Jazz series' with buzzer beaters? Game 1 '97 and Game 6 '98. The GOAT.

Because there are a number of theories of guarding MJ. Some teams tried to double team Jordan and wear him out. Sloan is an old school coach who decided it was better to let MJ go one on one and focus on shutting down his teammates. It doesn't matter how many defenders you toss at MJ, he will score. So you might as well try to control the rest. And notice that as the game goes along, Sloan does start running more players to double and triple team.

arthur, it is pretty obvious for one to see how similar Kobe and Jordan are in terms of their playing style. I commend Kobe tremendously for being able to play as Jordan did because it is very, very hard. I don't like saying Kobe is copying Jordan, rather emulating the greatest player to ever play this game. Kobe also has many original moves, but you have to admit the fadeaway jumpshots are very similar between the two, as are the regular jumpshot forms. Jordan is not overrated, just the best

I love how they show the whole Bulls coaching staff sort of stands up and nonchalantly walks off the court as if they knew what was going to happen, lol. Bill Walton said it perfectly there at the end. And what was the deal with Dennis and the air balls? He just chucks the ball up there, not really caring, haha. Classic game by the classic Bulls team. Too bad today's Bulls suck so much. They will look for free agents in the summer, maybe MJ, Scottie and Dennis, again....?
