1992-2000 were the best gymnastics. Every year there was at least 4 ladies who could have won the AA. Romania, Russia and the US had some good battles. I miss those years.

They still are considered quite amazing to the many who aren't impressed with today's gymnastics. Today's gymnasts may have difficult tricks, but so much of the sport is sacrificed. Difficulty has replaced pointed toes, solid form, straight legs, straight arms, artistry. Biles is lovely, but she hops out of bounds on floor, wobbles and flops on wolf turns, and her legs come apart on UBs. I much prefer the old artistic gymnastics when details mattered.

Overwhelming joy to see Shannon Miller win that BB gold in 96. She revolutionized womens gymnastics in the USA. Her difficulty on beam and bars were especially impressive. As was her consistency. It was Shannon who in Barcelona led that team with clutch routines time after time. And it was Shannon who narrowly lost the All-Around in a field that included more than 15 women who could have won. Sad story I once turned a girl that fancied me down back in the day and used her name and she was like who tf is she and i said an Olympic Gymnast lucky to say i snapped out of it eventually and decided to go out with her 😂 don't think she was coming over to Birmingham UK anytime soon 🙊 sad times as a child.

Gymnasts endure falls like that throughout their life, even as little kids. Luckily at that age they are pretty resilient - I'm sure it subluxated a vertebra or 2 but also, considering all the other abuse their body gets over the years it really wasn't that bad. Take it from someone who coached competitively for 15 years :)

Has anyone else noticed how the gymnasts back then were smaller and more petite and graceful. The newer ones tend to be stockier and perform with more power than grace. They’re still talented just wondering what changed

Probably less starvation and harsh coaching. But the open ended scoring of today has changed the routines completely, where harder skills mean higher scores, so the beauty and grace aren't really given much weight anymore. I do wish we could get a good mix of the 2 though.

  • @feehasfleas3291

That's exactly what I was getting at in my comment.. like Katelyn ohashi always has to have her leotard up her ass and showing off and smashing her private parts into the floor you know these gymnasts from the 90s didn't do that. I think the ones today try to do it for men's attention more than the routines and trying to win the gymnastics.. the 90's girls were the best because they did it because they wanted to win not because they were trying to get men to look at their leotards up their ass

Things might have been a lot different in 2000 if they had put Shannon on the team. I mean I get she pulled out if trials but she would have been a serious beam contender again with her mental ability. The 2000 team was such a disaster, so disappointing!

She scored a 9.287 at Trials on beam and hit her routine. She was way past her prime and not a contender on anything at that point. She would have made no difference on the team, but she would have gotten a belated Team Bronze like the others after China's DQ.

@@SonOfAGun1814 No, Moceanu got in thru quals. Dawes got Strug's spot. That's the crazy part. The idea of Dawes not being in that final is utterly ridiculous, but it was a byproduct of compulsories. Moceanu literally mounted w Dawes' dismount on fx. A lot of ppl loved compulsories because they see these ATHLETES as dancing little girls who can tumble, but this was a glaring example of why they should never have counted toward event finals.
