Absolutely agree! It is just staggering the number of gymnasts on the elite stage today who just can’t dance, either with elegance or personality. Back in the day I imagine the general attitude was ‘Can’t dance? You don’t make it’.

@@dahlia6007 even if it's not graceful dancing, it's still nice to see dance in routines which really is rare now. Laurie Hernandez for example dances but in a fun and bubbly way. Gymnasts don't have to do ballet or anything, it's just nice to see personality in routines Edit: wish we still got this now. Brooklyn Moors is the first gymnasts I can think of that still has great dancing along with the gymnasts from the Netherlands

This is awesome. I love it, but I love the bars from 70's to 80's. The beam was also pretty amazing in the 80s. Maybe bc its so different than what I'm used to. I do love to watch and see if n korea will enter more 9 year olds and try to pass them off as 17. That's always fun. Although those little kids are absolutely amazing.

Amanda Borden really picked the perfect time to nail the best beam routine of her life. Her back handspring form can stand the test of slo-mo and she was probably the only non-Chinese gymnast going for the two-foot layout at the time. Just a little cowboy and feet shuffling on the dismount but I think the Argentinian judge got it right with 9.80.

there is something about this particular competition and year that stands out and has something deeper that captivates the imagination. It was so competitive, the stakes seemed to be higher, the girls seemed to be tougher or had been through more rigorous training, maybe too strict of training. You can tell by looking at the russian's bodies. And there was a magic about the stadium. Even the name Atlanta makes you think of a place like Atlantis that some say might have been around greece where the original olympics took place.

Hats off to the unsung heroes of the Magnificent Seven, Jacie Phelps and Amanda Borden who led off the team sacrificing personal success. Also, I find it criminal that Phelp's bars routine wasn't shown. Easily the 2n best UB set behind Amy Chow. - Ukraine had some amazing music selection for their FX. And of course, Lilia. ❤ - Russia, oh Russia... Beautiful headcases since 1994. - Reigning World Champions Romania was one-gymnast sort (Ana Maria Bican sustained a knee injury days before the competition) and still managed to bring home a bronze medal. Badasses! - I love how "spontaneously" miked Bela Karolyi was throughout the whole competition. Such a humble guy... - But most importantly: Simona Amanar QUALIFIED FIRST FOR THE UNEVEN BARS FINALS !!!

Although I would love to see Pittsburgh 2040, we are nowhere near ready or able to host an Olympics unless they’re spread over Western PA. I could see many of the outdoor events at the ski resorts. But, I’m not sure we have enough indoor venues. And the infrastructure must improve first. I’m not sure Pittsburgh could do it. They could maybe host smaller competitions, such as (Winter Sports) skating championships. But, maybe Pittsburgh could be in a joint bid.

Mkay...does anyone remember in the commentary from NBC during the all around when they showed Roza Galiyeva and the commenters remarked "She was upset because she couldn't hear the music since the crowd was so loud?" Well, watching this version, the crowd was silent. The only thing she would've been upset about is her landing after the first pass. That, and the Russians not getting gold for the first time since they were formerly a part of the Soviet Union (especially her with being on the Soviet Team until 1991 and the Unified team in 1992). This would've been the first time that these ex-Soviets didn't get a gold medal in the team competition in a fully attended Olympics since the Soviets entered the team competition. They had won gold on every team competition since their first entry up to 1992 (even though 1992 was technically the Unified Team) and 1984 (when the Soviet Union boycotted the Los Angeles games)

What drives me crazy is the fact that NBC’s commentary says that Strug’s vault happened during Galieva’s floor routine, causing the crowd to erupt so she couldn’t hear her music. Galieva was NOT on the floor when this occurred, it was Dina Kotchetkova who was on floor when this happened. NBC just wanted to create unnecessarily drama. Rosa Galieva was last on floor and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. This is why this channel has the better coverage. No commentators and you see what really happened

We still have rhythmic gymnastics for artistry. Plus you know most of those girls were being starved and suffering eating disorders to achieve the international esthetic standards. It’s sad because I enjoy watching the little ballet skinny girls as much if not more, but I prefer healthy girls to suffering girls and I think it’s more fair to girls who will never be willowy to have a chance too.

Gymnastics are usually hosted in venues that seat about 10,000 people. The US in Atlanta (as well as the 91 World Championships in Indianapolis) hosted the event in arenas that can seat over 25,000. That's why it was so much louder than other gymnastic venues.
