For some vehicles. Others the early 2000s were the pinnacle. Subaru definitely peaked around 2005. Toyota for some models peaked around 2004 for tacomas and others. For the landcruiser it may have peaked much earlier (1980s???). You couldn't even get a manual trans in the 80 series; at least in america.

This is 100% Rogan's apocalypse vehicle. He has Bill Burr on his show pretty often and Burr's apoc vehicle is a helicopter. I'd pay good money to see that movie, Joe and Bill trying to rendezvous during an apocalypse, each in their chosen rides. Please make it happen Hollywood.

@Swampy it takes 3 hrs to go 45 miles in LA on a good day, what do you think that time will be in a major disaster? Literally infinity...total gridlock as vehicles run out of gas, break down, and are abandoned. Burr is smarter than you, obviously. Up...and OUT. If you cant do that initially then worrying about biodiesel etc wont even matter. Get off the X.....then you can worry about step 2, which I'm sure he has.

Lol not gonna happen with that Engine and Drivetrain, he'd be lucky to get 150 miles to a tank and that's if it doesn't break down. Should have chucked a 2JZ in there instead.

Everything else is either OEM or standard offroad/onroad performance upgrades that occur on many beefed LCs swapping the engine and transmission is hardly a downgrade in reliability as these are both very proven components and for the power output are well worth it. Amazing work as always, love the craftsmanship that goes into these restorations. Joe has great taste. It is incredibly unfortunate though to see all these what should be affordable used 4x4s being bought up and turned into toys for the rich making the prices astronomical... sad to see but glad its going to someone who seems to appreciate them at least.

@@klauspoppe7251 does it really? Last time I looked, the difference between brands came down more to the design and what was in the cab rather than under the hood where they're virtually identical at a given market segment. What the Landcruiser is known for is reliability and aftermarket parts, plus the ability to find spare parts in the back end of nowhere. In that regard, aftermarket parts are as much of a problem as a different drivetrain unless they're common.

Something like an old 12HT or a 13bt or a 12 valve cummings. In an apocalyptic situation u want 3rd world reliability, fuel economy and a vehicle that will still run after an EMP. That LS will be a boat anchor without infrastructure.
