This was one of the most unheralded UCLA teams ever. The Pac-10 was not on ESPN in those days so most of their games were only on the regional Prime network and tipped off at 8PM Pacific so most of their results didn't even make the morning newspapers. I don't think they even had any games on CBS until the tournament. Most fans around the country had only seen two or three of their games all season.

@isaiahevans4930 yeah it's just a crazy stat that no national champion since 95 has gone undefeated after Jan 31. It's only 2 months including the tourney. Just kinda proves that a late season loss is usually a good thing.

@isaiahevans4930 @creagle26 Well no doubt UCLA hasn't achieved the extreme level of success they had under Coach Woden, but to say that they haven't been good for the majority of the time since 1975 their last Championship with Coach Woden on the sideline is not true. Since 1995 of which UCLA won their last Championship in Basketball 🏀 they are 4th in Sweet 16 appearances and since 2000 they're tied for 3rd or 4th I believe, with 4. So if I were you, I would do a lot more research before making ignorant statements.

I was 12 years old when this happened - I almost cried that night - Big Nasty was my guy - nobody could guard him all year long - but that dam Toby Bailey came out of nowhere and dropped about 20 big points on my hogs - the year before was sweet tho - down 10 points to Duke and came back to win a National Championship - Scottie Thurman hit the biggest shot of his life in that game - (40 minutes of hell)

Of all my 52 years of college basketball watching this championship game still shocks me the most. I am a North Carolina fan and was at this Final Four, my first ever Final Four in person. I was convinced after Arkansas beat us in the semis that UCLA had no shot at beating Arkansas. But I was pulling mildly for UCLA. And the way UCLA played to beat them and how decisive it was left me flabbergasted. I thought Arkansas was going to beat them rather easily.

It’s crazy that this was the national championship matchup. Both teams were literally on the verge of being eliminated in the second round of 32. Syracuse actually had Arkansas beaten if it wasn’t for a huge mental error calling timeout when they didn’t have one……And all Missouri had to do was keep UCLA from going the distance of the floor with 4 seconds to get a bucket. The fact that they both met in the National championship game was amazing.

@@benny4848 Benny, they were the best college basketball team I've seen in the 40 years of watching the NCAA tournament! Started keeping up with March Madness in 1981 as a third-grader and the '90 Running Rebel edition could have transitioned as smoothly into today's era as they did 31 years ago! They ran my boys out of McNichols Arena in the final with a performance for the ages in all areas! The way Vegas played during that tournament run, they could have beaten anybody from any college basketball generation! They not only had the best frontcourt duo in the country with Augmon and Johnson, but the best backcourt as well with Hunt and Anthony! And then David Butler and Moses Scurry were sorely underrated in their roles! Butler could do a little of everything at the center position and Scurry brought the energy his teammates fed off of! I've been saying it since then that Butler and Scurry graduating had an immense impact on UNLV's depth that ultimately hurt their repeat effort at the end of the '91 season! We (Duke) took advantage of Vegas' lack of depth in beating them to avenge the '90 defeat!

Arkansas played sloppy. Corliss Williamson was the only rebounder Arkansas had. UCLA had some size and height in the O'Bannon brothers that Arkansas couldnt handle. The Hogs also missed shots they shouldn't have missed throughout. Thurman was missing wide open threes and he didn't miss those often. Bottom line UCLA was too big and tall.

Arkansas had caught so many lucky breaks to get tothis finals. Syracuse had them beat then a Syracuse player pulled a Chris Webber to force the game and overtime. They were lucky Memphis upset Purdue so they didn’t have to play a three seat in the second round and then Kansas got upset in the sweet 16 so they didn’t have to play the number one seat in the regional finals And then North Carolina Kentucky in the South region so they didn’t have to play Kentucky in the final four. As a Result UCLA totally smoked them in this game.
