I still see a lot of these mid 90s Chevy and GMC trucks as well as the Tahoe and Suburban cousins roaming around, 20 years later. They seem to be pretty solid and well-built.

Joel Dale Should go back to the way it was back in the day, throw in some straight 30W or 40W and a zinc additive, they'd be purring like a kitten as long as you'd change 'er out every 3-4,000 miles. Don't drive my old cars in winter, so they're fine with the thick stuff. Daily driver, I use 5w-30 synthetic, I can go about 8,000 miles between changes on that.

I had a 97 tahoe i bought with 220k miles fully loaded when we had our second kid because i was out of room in my 2500hd ex cab, plus it rode great!! Being in massachusetts the road salt fininshed off the frame so it had to go. By far the best gm ever made 88-98 pickups and the 95- 99 tahoe yukon. Still wont get anything but. Wife has an 11 tahoe and me a 15 crew cab silverado 1500, very nice but nothing compares with those. I had a 98 z71 ex cab i bought 5yrs old with 70k and drove it until it was 15 yrs old with 230k. Only regular maintenance no issues. Best truck i ever owned. Once again new england salt took its toll on the body. Love my 15 silverado but ive had more issues in 2 yrs at only 55k miles then i did with my 98 and 10yrs and 160k that i put on it. Best part is the 98 is still around town with the guy i sold it to, has well over 300k miles now, nothing left of the body, but he loves it too much to get rid of it!!

Our new '95 Suburban came loaded (I ordered it and it took nearly 8 weeks...the Ford Expedition hadn't come out yet), was a disaster in so many ways, I couldn't WAIT to unload it 5 years later. Everything you could think of, failed. And though I paid for the bumper to bumper warranty, the inconvenience of all the repair problems became just too much: cracked exhaust manifold, exploding batteries (There was a new Delco battery design that year...it sprayed acid all over the engine compartment...twice!!...I let them put a new Delco unit in and it did it too a year later), 3 A/C compressors, failed windshield wiper motor in a driving rainstorm, interior hardware falling off, prematurely cracked leather upholstery(exactly like the one here, incredibly thin veneer of a hide), blown water pump, twice, left us stranded more than once, and finally the coup de grace, a failed transmission at 53,000 miles, out in the middle of nowhere. And we were soooo gentle with this car. Add to that 10-12 MPG at best. Traded it for a two-year -old '98Toyota 4Runner 4WD with 44,000 miles....that was 19 years ago...the 4Runner has 375,000 miles...best car I've ever owned. Original engine and transmission, A/C, starter, etc. Crossed the country numerous times. Never went back to GM after that.

I strongly disagree that cars are made less durable or reliable today. That is incorrect. Some marvellous innovations have come at different times in automotive history. However current modern cars last longer and are more reliable in every way. Look it up, or even better work along side some new and old cars! They don't make them like they used to. Thank goodness for that!

for 25 year old car theyre still nice! heated leather seats among the best! Chevy was ahead of their time during the mid/late nineties, even when these things were way past their warranty 10 years later when I was in highschool in the they still looked like a new truck.

My parents had two chevy tahoes , the 97 and 99 (short versions), they were really great trucks at that time, and I agree with the other comments, the seats were really comfortable.

Buy Wagner brake pads off ebay or from Advance or Oreilly auto parts because they are the only pads that will stop this truck without fading. The dealer pads are better but the last time i checked. They wanted $200 just for the pads.

I thought the Tahoe/Yukon was kind of a odd idea at the time since the Suburban was great in my mind. But I think it really appealed to many folks because of the smaller size and versatility. You could essentially have 3 rows and no trunk or 2 rows and a big trunk. I think for most people, that was good enough. Even today, you still see many of these older models on the road. I wish GM would focus more on the base level versions of their SUV's and trucks today at a bit lower cost. I bet they would bring in more customers at a lower price point versus making more money but on less units in the higher end models. The simplicity of the 90s GM trucks and SUVs really grabbed me. The 2000's is when they seem to start getting fancier and a bit more complicated. Give me a clean 1996 Tahoe over a 2016 Tahoe any day.

I have a 1992 2 door yukon. Parts are dirt cheap and it's a very easy truck to work on. Parts are available at any parts store and are always in stock. And for harder jobs it does not cost that much to pay a mechanic to fix it. Compared to my other truck a dodge ram diesel. Any time it goes to a mechanic it's always a couple of grand.
