They sell resistor kits that bypass the VATS system. You find out what the resistance of your key's ballast is, then find the two wires in the steering column that go to the reader in the ignition switch. Solder the appropriate resistor into those two wires and the the VATS no longer needs to read the key.

What Would cause a backfire to happen while starting

Check the ignition switch on top of the shaft of the steering colum . They burn up .the contacts .inside them . Causing no crank . Same prob u having .

I’ve got a 95 that had a bad battery hooked up to jumpers and it would almost start up it would crank for its life ,switched it to a new battery and now it won’t even crank 😂love hate relationship with these cars

Did you replace the ignition lock cylinder

Where did you attach the wire to the starter, and then to the battery? on which pole?

I thought the starter relay was in the fuse box under the hood 🤔

But it doesn't fix the defective VATS ! HOW to fix the VATS security issue ?

Have a vehicle (97 Camaro) only turns when being boosted and does a constant clicking while while turning the key the belts slowly move but only slightly after multiple tries got the belts to move about foot but still no start amd consistant clicking rapidly while turning the key would I need to just replace the battery or would I need a new starter if anyone know anything it would he greatly appreciated.

@@Memmytoyplays-zt9wi Got it figured out all it needed was a new battery bit the intake manifold hasket blew and the snow fell and couldnt fix it

1. Test the battery. A local Oriellys or AutoZone I think still test and charge your batteries. 2. Sometimes you can tell a failing starter who's boss (unless it's on vacation) by tapping it with a hammer and have someone try to crank it. If it cranks, well then you know. 3.sometimes there's a ground strap that, if it's poorly connected, will cause a rapid clicking also. Now I couldn't find a direct replacement for it, but used a thick battery cable. Bolted one end on a starter bolt (Do not advise, find your factory bolt, I was just in a rush) and then self tapped the other to the rad support. Cranked over no problem and would work if your broke down as a temporary fix (This was on a revival project I did and still work on to this day as I fight the VATS system) My two pennies though is definitely check that battery

How can I do the same to mine? I found the wire but when I try to run it to a toggle switch the security light comes on and stays instead of the normal 5 blinks then goes away. Im extremely confused as to how you managed to get your mother in laws to work with this issue

Left everything hooked up the way it was from factory all I did was disconnect the ignition wires from the starter I ran a wire from the positive post on the starter to a toggle switch from the negative post on the toggle switch to the positive post of the battery when you turn the toggle switch on it acts like a light switch and allows power to go from the battery to the starter bypassing the security system

I do not recommend doing this to your car as it could cause damage to your starter with this particular vehicle it turned out to be the start position in the ignition cylinder and this was just the easiest way to fix it the time

Run a wire from positive post on starter relay ( should generally be on starter) to toggle switch and from switch to battery . On this particular car it turned out to be the start position on the ignition was bad and this was the simplest fix I do not recommend doing this as it could damage your starter ..
