1995-96 700 Club Interview (Cindy Birdsong)

Ойын-сауық

(c)1995 or 1996 CBN (not completely sure of year; but probably late 1995 at the earliest)
Mid-1990s 700 Club clip featuring Terry Meeuwseen interviewing Cindy Birdsong (a former singer with Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles and later the Supremes for 8 years {around the time Diana Ross was preparing to start off on her own as a solo singer} on her life and testimony. The tail end of the interview was cut off, but I think Terry was about to move to another segment.

Cindy is so humble here, knowing how she was treated just like Flo, got nothing, and was left with nothing. We all know the truth...Cindy, you are the "4th Supreme!"

Cindy was such a blessing to the Supremes and I liked her from the minute I saw her on TV. It was obvious that Florence Ballard was gone and Cindy was in her place, but she had the class, the grace and dignity to step in to incredible shoes and she pulled it off. There was something angelic about her that nobody questioned. In fact, she is one of the most beloved Supremes for that very fact. May God Bless You, beautiful Cindy Birdsong!

Kinda scary that Cindy replaced Florence Ballard in the Supremes only to have a dark cloud over her the way Florence did. Only thing is CIndy is living and Florence tried giving herself to God as well but didn't make it.

Wow, she did end up just like Florence Ballard. Except for early death. How tragic. Odd, how little press this has gotten. By the early 1980s, Mary Wilson was also (nearly) broke and had lost her home, husband, and her career was nowhere. Sad story but I still love their music.

FecitAnon: In an odd way, both Mary and Cindy did not heed the lessons to be learned from Florence. Mary said in her second book, _Supreme Faith,_ that Florence received a $160k settlement from Motown when she left the group, but all of it was stolen by her attorney. It is amazing that Florence held on as long as she did, because she mostly had to survive on the savings she already had in the bank. I have read through _Supreme Faith_ many times, and I think it is extremely valuable for what Mary teaches about the music industry, label politics, group management, and navigating the issues a group faces after it has peaked and is losing popularity. What jumped out at me in Mary's book, and from Cindy in this interview, was that they overspent and did not plan for the time that would eventually come when the group would no longer be profitable. It is so common in the music industry and definitely a cautionary tale.

According to Tony Turner who wrot ALL THAT GLITTERED MY LIFE WITH THE SUPREMES, Cindy wrote a book around the same time he and Mary did, but publishers turned it down as being "too sweet, too nice", without trash on Diana Ross she could not get a deal.

I remember seeing this on The 700 Club.I didn't know that Cindy was having such a bad time until I saw this.Thank God for saving her.I always liked Cindy even though she replaced Florence Ballard on The Supremes. Terry Meeuwseen sang with The Christy Minstrels which was more of a folk music group. I also remember seeing her win Miss America 1973. Since miss pinkeywinkey has to say something bad about Mary Wilson every time he/she/it opens it's mouth,I will say I have met Mary in 1998 and she was the sweetest thing. She was still beautiful at age 54 and hardly looked 40.I also saw her with The Supremes in 1967.She and Diane were still 22.Flo was 23.

You who are saying,,thinking disparaging things about cindy birdsong should be ashamed!! Many people are diana ross' fans and berry Gordy fans who refuse to accept that people( your own kind), can be greedy, selfish, unloving to the point that they care only about themselves and not their fellow man!! Well.....here it is! Cindy birdsong is not lying!! All this happened while no one seemed to care!! But guess what? God cared and always will care!! I'm so glad she called on God to save n help her!! Some of these greedy, rich, celebrities who've been caught drunk,,and some who've been caught doing and have since died doing drugs,,should take a tip from ms birdsong and call on christ jesus!! Money and fame isn't everything!! The Bible says,,one reaps what one sows!! So,,,,,no one gets away with hurting, being selfish, rude,or uncaring to another of their fellow human beings!! You will reap in life or after you die and meet God!! God bless you cindy birdsong!! Hope you're still alive!! Love n prayers always!❤❤
