Thanks for the video, you saved me a lot of time. I was stranded so I searched the symptoms, came across your video. So I drilled a couple holes in the front converter and was able to make it home with no problem. Thanks again!!

I'm glad it helped. When dealing with my converters, we found the guts of the front converter clogged up in the rear converter. Hindsight is 20/20, and I would have saved a lot of time, money, and frustration if I would have know to start with the catalytic converters first. GOD Bless

I have a 94 F-150, 5.0, and had THE EXACT same issues. Took it to the dealer and they wanted to put a new transmission in it. I found your video, cut the Cat and gutted it, and it INSTANTLY ran better! No more codes, and runs great now. Thanks!

Sounds like my same issue. 94 F-150. I've replaced everything. What I got going on at first was hesitation when I was driving. But now it's to the point where the truck won't even run. It will crank up shut off crank up shut off... I have replaced everything I think think that I would have to do with fuel/ ignition. I'm hoping I can cut off the Cadillac converter and it will work

To everybody experiencing this running issue!!! Wait til it’s DARK, take a friend, run it at highway speed a few minutes, pull over, have yer friend jump out & look at the exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter & and the converter itself, if its glowing orange or red hot! Its clogged & the hot exhaust gasses are being forced back into the engine through the exhaust manifolds, also it’s probably been running hotter than it normally does, higher water temp is a good “clogged cat gauge” so either replace it or gut it out, or cut it off & install a straight pipe where it used to be, but only if “you don’t drive it on public roads” wink wink, Problem solved, yer welcome. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. P.S. to the poster of this video & anybody else… if you notice the “heat cracks” in the black insulation on the hose mounted on the firewall directly above the engine? Thats a good indicator that there is a whole lotta heat rising up from just below the front cab area, & where is the cat? Right below the front of the cab behind the firewall area. The driver & passengers have probably felt the bottom of their feet burning lately? … another good indicator of red hot clogged cat. Hope this helps.

I pulled my o2 sensor and took it for a drive and it did seem to run a little bit better but not much. The symptoms you describe are the same as mine. I hooked up a pressure tester where the o2 sensor is suppose to go and I am only reading 2psi so there doesn't seem to be much blow back if the cat is clogged. I am almost sure its clogged but why am I not getting getting much blowback?

After 240 plus miles and old age, my cats were plugged from front into back second cat. If yours is old and high miles likely the same. You can start there and see what happens. After replacing everything the codes were saying was issue it did not seem to fix rough ride and popping until cats were taken care of. Also make sure all your sensor plugs are fully plugged in too.

Just picked up a farm truck from Princeton, tx a week ago it starts up all right cold, but hesitates to start warm but will crank up eventually. Thinking FPR is the issue there. But once i get going and get up to 35-40 truck starts popping and lurches up to speed. thinking this is the issue gonna take the o2 sensor out and give her a spin in a bit

Note. I changed the O2 censor on the truck before taking care of cat issue. The problem persisted even after the O2 was first replaced. After a long detailed explanation and test drive with a friend of mine that knowing everything I had tried that he suggested pulling out the O2 to see what happened. The roughness and bucking loss of power stopped. I took it to a muffler shop and repaired cats. Try just replacing the censor and try running it with open hole and see if that helps. If it seems that back pressure is the issue then correct cats. The muffler repair man said the first cats guts were plugging up the second cat in line.

I’ve got a 95 f150 5.0 that idles rough and will eventually shut off if I don’t give it gas. When I’m driving, it’ll lose acceleration unless I floor it. I’ve done a lot of work to it. The o2 sensor is a year old. I’ll try taking off the sensor and drive it like that and see what happens

Remove the O2 sensor just before the converters and leave the hole open see if just that little breathing room keeps it running. If so the converters may be plugged causing back pressure and may be your issue. That's what I did and found just that little opening made it run better

drill a 1/4 hole pre cat and hammer in inch long 3/8 brake line, measure pressure while running. should be under 2 psi for sure. push accelerator and see if pressure spikes. typically, as the cat clog gets worse, acceleration and high speeds become problematic with bucking, misfires, low power, and a muffled roaring noise. check pressure post cat with same procedure to make sure no blockage further back like a potato the neighbor shoved up your car butt.

I removed the old Catalytic converter and replaced the 02 sensor. What I did to figure out the problem was just remove the old o2 sensor and leave hole open and the truck ran better just with the little air hole from 02 sensor. The check engine light went off after i repleced the 02 sensor and took care of catalytic converter.

Look up a tutorial on KZread for how to read codes on an OBD1 F150. You need to jump two pins on the diag port with a paperclip (very easy to do), then you can watch the check engine light blink out the codes. Worked well for me in the past till i got a scanner. Easier with a helper so you can say the code number out loud, and they can write it down so you don't take your eyes off the light

If you can try removing 02 censor just before the cats and see if just that little bit of airflow helps. If the cats are clogged up and form back pressure it makes other emmission sensors send codes like they need addressing. If I was to do over I would start with looking into and removing or replacing the cats. In my case I had some vacuum lines that needed to be replaced too and no matter what as they were old and leaking. GOD BLESS your transportation needs.
