1993 Yamaha Outboard 30 H.P. Water Pump Replacment and Gear Oil change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Step by step replacement of the water pump impeller and changing the gear oil. Last time I had the boat out the water stream was kind of weak so I decided it was past time to replace the water pump.

Once the lower unit is off, the water pump removal should be almost if not identical. Thanks again for watching!

    Just a question when you said a good streem is that the exhaust hole on the shaft between the motor and prop, how much waters meant to come out?

  • @delmontindustriesltd7501

    @delmontindustriesltd7501

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for asking. No there is a piece of hose on this motor which goes through the upper pan on the right side. You can kinda see it toward the end of the video around the 21 minute mark. You want to see a solid stream of water coming out of that hose. Some will come through the exhaust and propeller hub, but that does not mean the water is reaching your powerhead.

    Is it true that the best day of a boat owners life is the day he buys it and day he sells it? Lol heard that a lot works the same for planes. Good vid was fun to watch haven't work on a boat motor yet just motorcycle and quads on the higher end of small engines

  • @delmontindustriesltd7501

    @delmontindustriesltd7501

    7 жыл бұрын

    Bwahahaha! That is a good one. I have never heard that before. I would say that is probably true as the acronym for "Boat" is Bust Out Another Thousand. . . Working in the outboard industry I can say that the statement is quite true. Especially if someone lets a boat sit for a long period of time without any maintenance. Outboards are easy to work on, the engine part is just like a lawnmower only with 2 or my cylinders. Inboard boats that have the engines inside the boat, are just like a car but slightly simpler. It's all pretty simple once you go through it once or twice. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Mark. Thanks for watching! Tge key can be installed backwards, but it sounds more to me like the water tube may not be completely lined up in the power head. It's hard to line it back up but I stick a small flashlight up there while I am pushing it back in. It could also be sand in the water jackets themselves. Or the water tube is plugged. Try sticking a small wire up the water tube where it comes out to ensure there is good flow. You can also (with the lower unit back off) use compressed air to clean our the system from the water output. Hope that helps. Good luck!

    I have a problem when I try to put my lower back on. It won’t go all the way up unless the linkage is pushed to forward, but then after the control and linkage will not cycle to neutral and reverse. It is almost like the linkage doesn’t have room to move in the foot. I didn’t originally disconnect the linkage prior to taking the foot off because I was just checking to see if I needed to order a new impeller. Now I can’t get it back on.

  • @delmontindustriesltd7501

    @delmontindustriesltd7501

    Hmmm. That is interesting. Make sure that the lower unit is in the same gear as the shifter. (i.e. forward, etc) Other than that I would suggest that the coupler on the lower unit is much lower than it needs to be. You can try threading it up to see if that makes more room. Sorry I can't help more.

    Normally you shouldn't have to shift the shifter to get the lower unit back in place. It should all slide back together. You'll have to pull it back off, and ensure that the shift lever is in neutral or reverse and the shift handle is in the same position. Once it's all lined up, it should all go back together with sone wiggling.

    I have a 30AE. They are not US or Canadian models per conversations with both US and Canadian Yamaha, most likely Asian or Australian. My motor plate has an S after the 689 which is the motor type designation indicating short shaft. At the bottom lower left is stamped N which is Yamaha's code for 1984 year, first year they made outboards. You can look up the various codes online. The motor and all parts are the same as a 30ESN. How this ended up in Iowa on the original StarCraft it was mounted on is beyond me, but both are in excellent condition, lucky me, I only paid $1500 for the complete setup including trailer, and a brand new 70# Minnkota 2 years ago.
