1993 4Runner Build EP. 2

So I finally got the body lift cut and new tires on the 1993 Toyota 4Runner. Also decided to go with a different motor, talked about in the toyota forums, Raptor Engines 3.0 Hi-Pro. Hoping everything works out an we can be driving this thing soon. Thank you for watching!

Hey man. Great vids. I have been doing the exact same thing to a 1990 3vZe for about a year and a half. Restored or replaced damn near every part of the thing. Its a tricky engine but once u spend time with it its a lot of fun to work on. Thanks!

Appreciate it man! Be careful with some of the motor suppliers out there selling motors. There’s a bunch of sketchy ones. Hope you get yours running brotha🔥

@@NixonTV1 so far ive been lucky with the original. Did the headgasket and valve clearance. Still has good compression and decent power. Getting the fuel trim right was a bit of a process, but its running much better after oem O2 sensor and coolant temp sensor.

@@NixonTV1 good call i would also suggest thoroughly inspecting every vacuum line with vacuum gauge and see that they are holding pressure. I would also make sure all the ports off the throttle body arent clogged with corrosion (same for the metal vacuum lines).

I own a 2nd gen as well , yours looks great . I'm out of So cal . There is a company sunwest automotive engine in Washington that seems pretty reputable . I didn't go that route I found a guy in mission viejo who did my head gasket . A little pricey but he comes highly recommended works mostly on Japanese cars and specializes on toyotas . I'm happy with his work . Good luck on your build

Funny you say that. I ordered my motor from Sunwest. Almost have 1000 miles on it and it’s running good. What year is yours?

Thanks. So I haven’t made an current update video but I ordered my engine from them like 4 months ago and he said I’d have it within 2 months of ordering so I requested a refund last week and he cant refund me so I had to file a dispute at my bank. Based off my experience I would not use them or recommend them to anyone.

How is it going for you? I'm a 2nd gen 4Runner owner too! (also with the 3VZ-E, except my runner is green). I love the look with those tires, and I agree that the 3" body lift might have been too much, at least with the smaller diameter tires. I'm planning to do a body lift on mine, I will definitely go for the 2" now after seeing the difference you got between the 3 and 1,5" lift. Will you be posting updates? I would love to follow the build if you got the time for it! It could really use some kind of front bumper!

Thanks man! Getting a motor has been a longer process than I expected. I ordered a reman from Raptor Engines and he scammed me. He took my money and kept telling me their testing machine was down and they were waiting for parts. This lead on for 6 months until I went to my bank and turned the problem over to them. It took me 2 months to get my money back…. I found another company last week that says they have one and can ship it next week so I’m hoping they follow through. Ya I think a 2 inch body lift would be good👍🏼. I will be posting updates just trying to get this motor thing figured out. Have you checked out Coastal Off-road? They have a pretty cool weld-it-yourself front and rear bumper.

I got a 91 with the 3vze as well and bought it with a 2" lift from the previous owner. I run it with almost the stock size tires - 235/75 R15 which equals to 29,8" tire. This creates a lot ot space - I can basically put my head between the wheel and the fender, which I kinda like to be honest. I am thinking about 31" or 33" tires, but I am a bit afraid of the increased fuel consumption and the problems with less power and the suspention angles. I had a similar issue with the engine - it broke a couple of months after I bought the car. No compression on 1,3 and 5 cylinders - broken head and bend crankshaft. I was able to find a good mechanic to rebuild it. Since then I have done 30k miles on it, almost no issues. The truck is otherwise pretty solid and I truly love it. Me and the wife use to camp in it in the summertime - with backseats down you got a pretty good sleeping area. Keep up the good work! Hope you will get yours up and running soon!

@@Dilomski nice man! Ya I’m not sure on how much mpg or power is lost going with 33” tires. I drove it the other day for the first time, video will be coming out next week, and seem a little underpowered but that’s what everyone says. I have big plans for it. Got a roof top tent and plan to do camping trips with it hopefully soon!
