The ’92 Redskins avenged a humbling mid-season loss to Giants with this 28-10 beatdown in front of a mostly quiet but completely dissatisfied Meadowlands crowd on this cold December afternoon in New York (well, New Jersey, really). In a season marked by injuries that stymied the once-lethal Redskin attack, Washington conjured up a rare four TD performance in a game they controlled from start to finish. The loss officially ended the Giants’ hopes of a post-season birth while keeping the ‘Skins’ playoff push alive and rolling.
With the offensive line recovering and reassembling, the running game rolled, an untouched Rypien looked sharp, Art Monk kept his receiving streak alive, and Joe Gibbs’ team grabbed their 3rd win in four games against Big Blue.
The Giants weren’t much of an opponent. LT strolled the sidelines with and injury, Phil Simms was… where was he, actually? Rookie Kent Graham (a familiar name) was left to fend for himself with a vanilla game plan (that’s unfair to vanilla, which as a flavor is surprisingly complex, unlike Ray Handley’s playbook) and Big Blue was definitely Big Blah in running out the string on the season (and Handley’s brief tenure in The Big Apple).
The always delightful Dick Stockton is here alongside The Human Smirk, Randy Cross, for this one. Madden and Summerall covered six Washington games this season, but didn’t make the Sunday afternoon trip to NY with the ‘Skins for the first time in forever for this one.
