I grew up across the lake from the Stantons. As a little girl I thought it was a chainsaw I was hearing. I used to drive the snowmoble across the lake with the dog sled loaded with sleds. They had the perfect hill for sledding.

I'm sure there's an alternate reality somewhere in which JMB didn't go road racing.

min 0:44: Look at Guy Cooper, who is no taller than I am, touch both feet on the ground while getting back on his 250cc 2-stroke bike. Can't do that with a modern 2-stroke. I blame the magazines for begging for "an updated chassis", to be as tall as a 4-stroke has to be. Having the 4-stroke forced on the industry has hurt the industry, in many aspects, more than anybody has measured. But the lack of sales is a pretty good measurement, and the fact that the FIM can't fill a MXGP starting gate.

I'll put David Bailey and JMB as the best riders in AMA history. And I'm talking about getting on a bike in a stadium, parking lot, dirt field,or your back yard doesn't matter.Never seen anyone ride as good ever....

Totally agree , but though not as natural and smooth as DB and JMB I got to put Hannah up there too.

The Pontiac Silverdome was built when I was a little kid, about the same time MX came to the USA from Europe. Today, the stadium is gone, and my question is, will I out live MX too? Maybe. But I was trail riding before I knew what MX was, and I will be trail riding even if MX gets demolished also.

Question: I could be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that James ‘Bubba’ Stewart is credited with inventing the move of leaning the bike over going into jumps to reduce air time & get hooked up sooner. It sure looks like JMB does that exact same thing at @ 2:37

Bubba was credited with being the first rider to “scrub” lap after lap.Hence the name the “bubba scrub”. But JMB and some other early free riders were doing some early variants of scrubs/whips from 89-92. Before any proper free ride videos came out. 2:37 may be a very slight scrub, not really comparable to JS7 in his prime. However JMB was at least 7-10 years ahead of pretty much all moto/super cross riders in terms of style and technique.

Thans, man. I may have a bit of San Diego. It's not really high on my list, cuz Bayle didn't win. :) I've got Las Vegas cued up for this weekend, but I'll see what I can do for the next one.

WR's had flywheel weights to slow down the powerband...gave it more grunt.

Sorry, but I was out of the SX scene during 1990. I don't know what I was doing, but it wasn't supercross. :) I didn't even see any of the 1991 season, when Bayle won everything. Horrible for a JMB fan to say, but there you go. I've got a few more races from the '92 season left to post. I was so disappointed Bayle didn't win the championship that year, I lost interest in SX for a few years.

Bayle quit, and Jeremy cracked open a beer. I would have liked to see Bayle continue and make Jeremy work for it. It was his choice, and I respect that. But the world missed out on witnessing a lot more excellence. Today, I am tired of watching a "fast average", on tracks that every racer on the line has wired, with people calling it great racing. I miss watching "Greatness".
