John made me do a double take when he mentioned "satellite radio controls" at 4:48. It took me a sec to realize he was using the term "satellite" to signify that there are separate controls on the steering wheel to operate functions of the radio and not specific controls to operate "Satellite Radio" (e.g. SiriusXM, etc.) which I believe wasn't available until much, much later. 😂

Ahhhh makes sense. Motor Trend's word that they always used for those controls was "redundant." I remember as a kid being confused every time they reviewed a Pontiac and being told those dozens of cheap gray buttons on the steering wheel were "redundant." Like are they straight up insulting Pontiac?! 😂

  • @05gtdriver

I'm pretty sure he meant it as in detached controls from the head unit, satellite doesn't necessarily mean a radio provider, it can be used to describe objects that are not directly connected to a main unit.

And I know some cars from the 70s did but I even as a kid in the 80s riding in some I cannot recall what they were. My aunt had one that I think was a Pontiac and the neighbor up the road had a Caddy from either late 60s or early 70s that had that too

Aaron Hainan I do remember some Subarus having frameless windows now that you mention it (couldn’t tell you which ones specifically haha). But I was born in 93, so the two cars I remember most from this era with frameless windows were this and the Aurora. It’s a trend I wish would pop up more often! Safety regulations probably stop that nowadays. And I agree! Beautiful car - Oldsmobile was my favorite brand growing up. Really like my 04 Bravada.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Great vehicles like this plush Diamante, the innovative Galant, the fun Eclipse, the beastly 3000GT and the capable Montero were all exceptional contenders in all of their respective classes. The value propositions were definitely there with good fuel economy, good safety, competitive technology, performance, and pricing. You can see how well these older Mistus have aged versus how poorly their new lineup compares to everything else on the market right now. Such a shame.

Outlander sports are reporting strong sales as is the lil Mirage, (we have 2) Their alliance with Nissan will open things up again like it did with Chrysler. The warranty is legit too. Mitsubishi is following KIA's lead on how to reestablish itself.

I owned two 8G Galants and a 2G Diamanté, I miss those cars. The Diamanté I had was a POS but that’s because the previous owners didn’t maintain it, but the only reason I got rid of the first Galant was because someone totaled it while it was parked in front of my house. I donated the second one once I started having kids, it was still in prime condition (save for some paint cancer). Today’s Mitsubishi doesn’t make anything I’d look at.

I've only had to replace the timing belt when it broke once but other than that the engine doesn't burn oil and runs smooth as butter. I'll be sad when I let go of this one, I practically grew up with it.

I’m here because my neighbour two houses down from me had meticulously maintained (immaculate under the hood, interior, trunk area) a black ‘93 Mitsu Diamante LS he bought from its only owner (just across town) in 2018 for $1,600, no collisions, all papers incl, & with a dealer-verified mileage of 114k miles. Last April a car salesperson was driving around and saw him washing the car , stopped, and said to him he knew of a Japanese gentleman, a retired mechanical engineer in Australia, who was looking for a near-mint copy of the car to buy for his modest collection of early-90s Japanese luxury sedans he was amassing . Arrangements were made, an independent mechanic hired by the collector assessed the car by inspecting it in his shop and driving it at length. After a most glowing favourable report from the mechanic, the collector said he wanted it & he will handle all the import/transport costs from SoCal to Melbourne Australia, and that he will pay no more than U$27,000.00 for it. After a few weeks my neighbour showed me a cashiers check for the amount, and an extra space in his garage!

These were very nice cars. I drove a bunch of them back in the day. Mitsu dumped them on a rental fleet to depreciate them a bit. I used rentals for business because the reimbursement rate where I worked was terrible if you used your own car. I much preferred the ones without the sunroof. It took away too much headroom for me. I tried to buy a base ES that I really loved, but it had to go back into MMNA's system and ended up far away. I still miss that car. They all ran great and had excellent stability even in horrible weather.
