1991 Daihatsu hijet Jumbo S82P Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I am reviewing my daily driver, a Jumbo Mini truck! One of the most comfortable Mini Trucks I have driven to date and has a wicked color and interior layout among the mini's. If you have any questions for me regarding the truck or whether it may be for sale or not you can reach out to me at: hapwillson@gmail.com

This is definitely the most comprehensive overview of one of these on KZread. Everyone else just walks around, talks about the interior and bed, and gushes a lot. You show the stuff we'd have to actually find and work on. Thank you!

what would you use to change the front brakes to disk brakes? I also have a S82P, mines 1990. the S83P's have different shocks, not sure about all the other parts, like control arms or tie rods

That's a cool truck! So are they longer than a normal Kei truck or is the bed smaller?

Same dimensional limit so the bed is 5ft 6 inches long! And with the tailgate down, about 6ft 6 inches.

Possibly, but it would cost well over a thousand bucks. All the parts would more than likely be used components from japan ausction.

The jumbos are a little more comfortable and get used a LOT more, usually they are beat to hell by the time they get traded in.

In my opinion I would go with the 1997 model as you're gonna have a lot of mechanical improvements over the late eighties model such as a slightly larger displacement engine and newer AC system

Most in Texas can be titles and registered if 25 years or older and you have the proper importation paperwork. Some of the popular honda models have had titles revoked as of recent.

@@happydaily7324 That’s good information. I will do some hwy driving like pick up building materials or to a junk yard. So didn’t want to be totally illegal. One other thing parts and where to source them. I get buy on my 94 cobra mustang. I do a lot of work myself , changed radiator, water pump , alternator the bushings , re built the brakes and all the suspension work myself. Window motors , new stereo system. Have not dealt with say inner transmission except new clutch. Have not done any say rebuilding an engine. Are there mechanics that work on these for say more serious problems. @@johncarmichael4698 Honestly learning yourself will be the best bet. You may find a mechanic but they will probably over charge. Other wise these motors are super simple and if you can do all of the stuff you say the motors and trans will be easy. One step at a time eh

Because your side by side ain't gonna be weather proof inside with air conditioning and a sub system with Toyota reliability 😊 oh and it's fucking adorable ✌️🙈🙉 ok maybe slightly ugly but the flat bed capability does give a nice use for a wood cutting surface or using the headache rack for extra long wood. And it's at a fraction of the cost of a good side by side. Also they do sell dump models. Oh and street legal 🤠

You can buy versions of these little Kei trucks with dump beds, or even a scissor lift raising bed. The point of these trucks is Japanese roads are tiny, and parking space is at a premium, having a compact truck which can also skip up narrow Japanese country roads in the mountains is really useful. Also the bed may be small but it's designed to hold 54 standard crates, or 40 plastic liquid containers, so it's plenty useful for farmers and fishmongers. Bear in mind these trucks were designed as a replacement for three wheeled cargo motorbikes, not as an American size pickup truck shrunk down.

More specifically, Daihatsu is not "Toyota" they have always been their own company up until like the late 80"s and still "kinda" remain so to this day but yeah, they ran damn near parallel to toyota and even infringed upon their designs in a lot of cases. When they got "absorbed" by toyota with a 76% share, they got to use all the surplus parts thus you see the same fabric on a 92's seats as an 86 toyota pickup. Daihatsu cars are also notable for their more durable construction and uniformity of parts. Can't go wrong with toyota right? Might as well join them. Today they are becoming more "Independent" but the two brands have always shared a reputation and common theme. They were always the "Toyota" of kei cars and now it's literal. Ironically Toyota now makes it's own light truck called the Pixis.

A lot of these Kei trucks are used on rural farms or for transporting things short distance, often they'll get treated like workhorses but won't travel long distances. They're superb on narrow rough roads but not quite as fun on highways.
