    I had a 95 Cutlass Ciera twenty plus year ago. I traded it with a little over 80000 miles. That car used to plow through the snow. Fast forward to now...I just bought one for $1600 with 22,000 original miles a week ago. I love it!

    second care ive bought, and probably my last. mine is a year older, with the cut off speedometer.. love this car, it may not look attractive to many other people, but each time i see it, it gets more beautiful. got mine last year, only 60k miles. owner before had it sitting in the sun for years, so had to repaint the gunmetal grey trunk, but while i was doing that, i added a spoiler from a 2013 ford, haha- looks awesome i might add. a month ago it was missing gears, found out the plug wires were sun baked, brittle to the touch, so replaced them, put brand new plugs in, and while i was at it- a new fuel filter- runs better then the day i got it- such low gas mileage, and fun to drive. It doesn't happen to be my dream car, but it fits what kind of style i like in my most favored cars- looks like a normal car, but can beat the hell out of your jerry rigged rice cooker. lol

    Great ride! My grandmother had an '86 Cutlass Ciera and I currently drive my grandfather's red 1990 Buick LeSabre w/ only 61,000 miles. These GMs are incredible, and I hope to never get rid of my car.

    I had a ‘93 Pontiac GA with the 3300 LG7. That engine was beautiful. I did a complete top end rebuild, was amazed at the design of the internals... Bulletproof, except for the plastic bits. And at about 2000 rpm sounded like a small V8, haha. I miss that engine

    Figure out your gas mileage old school, top off the tank, notate the mileage, stop and top off the tank at the end of the trip, divide mileage by the gallons of the second fill up and you got your avg. mileage for the trip. One of the joys of owning a ciera. I have a 150 buck, 1989 ciera myself.

    Two Phillips screws and some sensor-safe intake cleaner/maf cleaner, some of the easiest maintenance you can do yourself. Never needed it but, on the 3300 it’s so robust and easy to do why wouldn’t you... even the idle air control valve is easy to get at.... this motor was a mechanic’s dream to work on.

    @@panikrev175 As a mechanic, yes and no. Changing the serpentine belt, for instance, is easy. I'd rather do a dozen of them on Cutlass 3.3s than one on most other vehicles. But changing the front valve cover gasket is a much bigger deal than it should be.Good engine, though, and good on fuel.

  • @goingdownthetubes
    @goingdownthetubes11 жыл бұрын

    It's best to avoid the 4-cylinder models if possible. While they provide good economy, they simply can't provide adequate power for a car of this size and weight. You may save some, but are always penalized with puny performance. The V6 versions are much smoother and more satisfying, providing ample torque for both off-the-line acceleration and highway passing.

    +scully These olds are awesome cars.. although they did suffer a bit from 1985 to 1988.. Olds didn't do so good for some reason.. But then they 89's came out and they put out good cars again from that point out.. Olds was always known for the soft ride and extremely comfortable seats.. so I would suggest either getting an olds from before 85 or 84 or from 89 and after as they really are good cars...

    +james .crowley well I have no problems with mine I tell you that the only problem my car haves is the paint job is getting ripped I'm thinking to send it to a body shop just for a new paint job and fix some dent's that the car haves nothing to expensive. the course control works fine my air conditioner works the power windows, power steering wheel, and maybe my car is running like brand new my mileage on the dash board only marks 230,000 miles so it's still in good shape the engine has never been repaired or my transmission has never been open I change my engine oil every 4,000 miles and my transmission oil every 7,000 or 8,000 and how do I know that the car is good well it's because my dad got that car brand new and he told me how to take care to that car he told me when I started high school here take the keys it's yours he stopped using it because he now haves a Dodge RAM 2004 but really I love the car and it's 10 years older than me but I think old cars are much much better than these new cheap plastic cars those chevy Malibu Ford fiesta the Chevrolet equinox all those cars from 2006 up to this day are garbage compared to the good old cars. good luck to find a good cutlass ciera I really recommend you to find it and thount the 2003 impala haves the same 3.1 engine with the same 4 gears W/over drive transmission?

    I feel sorry for you kids today. You never got the chance to drive or own any real cool/fast cars, like a 55 T bird or 59 triumph tr3 or 65 mustang gt convertible or 74 nova or 85 cutlass, sorry just reminiscing a bit. The cars they are dumping on you today are expensive, poorly built, hard to repair plastic crap. I had a new 1989 cutlass ciera v6 (pokey, crappy built old man's trolley). If you want a cheap fast car. Get a crown vic, mercury marquis or lincoln town car. They are a dime a dozen, dual overhead cam v8 (there's a reason cops always bought them). Well built (think taxi cab), and easy to repair (full frame, rear wheel drive) with lots of space. Gary in Michigan (64 years old and still hot rodding). And Yes we are goingdownthetubes. lol

    Some of the newer cars are capable of many,many miles. I have an 89' Ford ranger 4 cyl. 5spd. that currently has 365,000 miles on it's original trans and engine. My cousin's father bought it new, so I know the mileage is correct. I had to replace the rear end about 3 or 4 years ago, the truck starts and runs reliably up here in Michigan's cold winters (it is -6 degrees as I type this). I just bought a 97 Honda civic with 260,00 miles. It runs perfect and has a rust free body (rare in Michigan), for $1,400. I figure if it ran that far it will run much farther. I sold my Chevy K1500 ,an 92 model with 450,000 miles on two engines, rebuilt trans and rear end. the difference in today' cars is simply this and they are pretty much the same, brand wise: A. none of them will be rebuildable in 30-40 years (plastics). B. they have extremely difficult, and complicated systems to repair (computers scattered all over). C. very, very cramped spaces to work in (many requiring engine and trans removal for bigger repairs). D. body's today last a long time 15-20 years as opposed to 5-10 years in times past. But cars today all look the same and are boring! with just a few exceptions.

    +highwatercircutrider I agree up to a point. American cars sucked through most of the 70s, the 80s and 90s. But cars built in the last decade or so will outperform classic cars in EVERY category. Modern cars require less maintenance, last a lot longer, handle, brake and accelerate much better, not to mention modern cars' passenger cells are a lot stronger and handle crashes MUCH better. The only thing classic GM cars have over modern ones is styling.

    The old cars (50's, 60's, 70's) definitely have a cool factor that new cars do not have, but talk to any "old timer" and they will tell you that any car from that era was ready for the junk yard by the time it had 75,000 miles on it. Cars were not built to last in those days. Today, pretty much any car (with reasonable care) will make it to 200,000+ miles. They are also safer, better on gas and the environment, and in many cases, faster. Your average v6 family car has better 0-60 times and 1/4 times than a 60's muscle car.
