Brave, bold and fearless adventurer. I admire your work and the spirit. I would never have thought of doing all this. I love the meticulousness, and can't wait for you to get the car on the road. I saw a post with artery forceps, and I wondered if you are a surgeon or.....! 😀

So far so good, not as messy as I thought it would be. Look foward to part 2. 😁

I *think* this box might be ok - i noticed the play is only on turns and theres zero play around the centre area. I would have thought the middle is where the worn section would have been.

yes my 300,000km C107 has all the play in the middle. It's been re-sealed but because no hard parts were replaced it still has the play

Isn't there a concern about the gears having worn down on the inside? I understand the box can leak, but there seems to be a reason why people buy rebuilt boxes. I just need some guidance...

Christopher Kreschollek correct. If the box is excessively sloppy it should be replaced. This one is borderline and at 300k km its kind of understandable. The rebuild instructions do outline how to adjust it and if it cant be made satisfactory it is basically best to just find another box

Hi MMWA -- I've been riveted by your 124 videos like I've never been before with KZread videos. It is 100% possible to remove and re-seal the output shaft and related seals with the box still in the car. I did this exact job a few years ago on my 500E, which as you probably know is even tighter underneath and in the engine compartment than any four- or six-cylinder W124 model !! You can see my HOW-TO here: www.500eboard.co/forums/threads/how-to-re-sealing-the-power-steering-gearbox.1127/post-13892 If you aren't a member of my 500Eboard site, you should definitely join. We have a lot of HOW-TO articles for the V-8 W124s, although many of them apply to the six-cylinder models as well. www.500eboard.co/forums Cheers, Gerry (gerry at vanzandt.us)
