While it looks a little brutal, this guy is incredibly skilled. Swinging a heavy hammer in a confined space like that, without clipping the boot is a lot harder than it looks! Try it some time. You could make some good money with skills like that.

This is how you replace the ball joint! Put some Modern Talking on the radio and get the hammer out 🙂 Looks like the shovel is used to hold the spindle away. Nice work!

Thanks to this video I was able to do this service in my 1990 260E!!! The only difference is that I don't have a lift and used an hydraulic jack instead. Regards!!!

Thank you for this…every other video is 15+ minutes and you need special tools to press out the joint. I’m very happy my 1993 320CE has replaceable joints…in 1994 E320 you had to buy the complete control arm as it’s not replaceable. Just got my ball joints and will do it in the next few days. Only difference is I’m replacing my springs as one has sagged and is bent.

Danke! Habe jetzt 2x Traggelenk am w124 getauscht. Einer ging wirklich wie auf dem Video, doch einer wollte erst nicht raus ( 5x so viele Schläge) und wollte danach nicht rein. Aber ohne das Video hätte ich mich nicht getraut die beiden an einem Abend zu wechseln :) Ohne Hebebühne natürlich, drei gute Wagenheber vorausgesetzt. Einer am besten Stempel.

Einwandfrei,denn so habe ich meine vor 5 Jahren auch rausgekloppt..Ohne Presse und /oder Querlenkerausbau...Einfach nen guten Hammer und Lenker abstützen. Meine waren aber fester drin,vergammelt.

Hurray some one that does this properley not the ones stripping spring out roll bars ect ect the proper tool would be better for removing and installing as it puts less stress on lower arm but hay it works

Do schnell habe ich das noch nie gesehen. In meinem W124 E280 Limo gingen die Traggelenke nur mit einer 40t Presse heraus und entsprechend wieder herein. Ab dem E320 darf man nur die Traggelenke inklusive Querlenker erneuern.

My 1993 320CE has replaceable ball joints…they went to non replaceable in 1994 E320.

I have replaced mines after an accident where one them pop out at 30km/h, now after replacing both of them, every time i hit a bump on the road my whole steering wheels shake a lot, do you know what can be the problem?

I tried this method and failed to remove the ball joint even though I hit it with a sledge hammer. May have to take the control arm out and find some place with a press.
