    Me too! Bought a new one in 1991 to take me through Iceland at the time. Now the restored bike is finished it is not ridden: I just keep it to look at in the garage. I take the cover off it every few months and I just enjoy looking at it. Crazy perhaps but it just makes me smile.

    Put the 750 next to the current 1200 and still I think that the 750 is the prettier bike. Beefier, cooler, harder. Maybe I'm getting old :)

    I agree. There's something about the original 750 Super Tenere. The bike is unused and is stored. Sometimes i uncover it just to look at it...then I put it back into storage. Brings back memories of when I owned my first brand new Super Tenere back in 1989.

    I`m a poor man so I know nothing aboat 1200, but I ownd a XTZ750 many years 120,000 km on all kinds of roads and no roads at all. With some small carburartore adjustments the engine works perfect from low rpm, (needle jet 2 down). No power but smoth from 1500 rpm. Still full power on gravel roads.

    Really nice job! Question: what about the repair pistons of the bigger size, +0,25; +0,50? Did yamaha purchase it, or only standard ones? I know many of them, case to the high mileage needs new pistons. Thank you! Hello from Russia!

    Awesome restoration! One question though, since I'm interested in buying one, from what year did they change the oil pump gears to plastic? Cheers!

    Hello. I'm afraid I do not know when the oil pump gears where changed from metal to plastic. I had another 1992 XTZ750 and that had plastic gears. Hope that helps.

    Hello... I bought the bike for £800 (British Pounds). Then spent about £2500 on the restoration: new chain, brakes, discs, new seals, original exhaust, carbs rebuilt, new clutch, rebuilt wheels, new cams, new cam chain, new battery, powder coated frame, swing arm, rebuilt forks, rebuilt swing arm/bearings, rebuilt engine, new tyres. Bike is now back to factory original specification and looks brand new. The bike has now covered 500 miles and is perfect. I plan to keep the bike - will use in the summer only. My daily bike is an XTZ1200 Super Tenere - that is far easier to ride than the 750!

    Hello..hard to say what its worth. Here in the UK I have seen an immaculate unrestored 1990 bike with a genuine 17,000 miles for sale for around £4000/$5250. I still have my restored bike and just love to stare at it as it takes me back to my youth :0)

    @@dcasteaux9181 this fellow is asking 7500 for his model. The Bluebook Value doesn't really give her an honest assessment which is much lower than that. Either way, I am still curious to see how it looks and perhaps take it for a test ride.

    Nice build, and for 3300 pound, cheaper than i expected. Can you tell me why and how the 1200 is easier to ride than the 750?

  • @dcasteaux9181

    @dcasteaux9181

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Martin Fisker . I have owned 4 XTZ750's over the years but the 1200 is easier to ride because 1) Seat height lower 2) 1200 has an adjustable seat too 3) Centre of gravity of the 1200 is lower. 4) Low speed handling is superb 5) Low-end torque is far higher. However, the 750 is better when it comes to mechanical noise (1200 sounds terrible though it is smoother) and it is far better looking in my view. The 750 is now unused and is in storage - 535 miles since the rebuild. I will not sell it.

    Okay. My own bike just broke down a couple of weeks ago (my first one, and cheap enough that it might not be worth repairing). Im looking into buying a cheap semi offroader, but i think i need the twin motor for on road travel. I've always been into the Africa Twin, but seeing some videos and pictures of the XTZ i fell a little in love... The reviews just dont seem overwhelming when it comes to reliability... But the XTZ is half the price

    The mechanicals are very strong - especially the gearbox. However, I know the voltage regulator is a known issue on the early 3LD bikes, and the output shaft (where it meets the front sprocket) can wear with hard use. But since I rebuilt mine only to stare at I don't mind!

    Just came across your video. I am looking to do a big journey through Africa and I wanted to get myself one of this "old" Super Tenere. I can't see myself riding the 1200 as it's to big of an engine for that purpose. Have you experienced many mechanical issues with yours 750 ? Would recommend it to anyone who would like to go on an adventure?

  • @dcasteaux9181

    @dcasteaux9181

    XTZ750's have bombproof mechanicals. Only weak spot is the front drive sprocket: if the drive chain is too tight then the sprocket will wear out the driveshaft splines: some unscrupulous owners fix this by welding the sprocket to the shaft! They need regular oil changes too. If I was crossing Africa I would use an XT600 or XT660. I too have an XTZ1200 - agree that its too big for offroad but it has been totally reliable after 50,000 miles.

    @@dcasteaux9181 Thanks for the fast reply. I'll consider the 660 then. Though I won't mind the XTZ, if it's only a matter of sprocket I can always change the chain and both sprockets few weeks before departure. 1200's driveshaft eliminates lots of worries and pressure. Did you ride your 1200 on all sorts of terrains for those 50k miles ?

    I did not change my valve stem guides, they were not worn. I did change the valve stem seals but only because they are easy to change. Pistons, bores and rings were fine and these were not changed. My engine had very good compression even before the rebuild.

    What about a Honda Transalp 700 vs Yamaha XTZ 750 comparison? I would like to buy one of them... For me the Super Ténéré is more sympathetic, but I know, the 700 Transalp is very younger..and I think it has an ABS, which could be usefull on the streets. Can somebody compare this two bikes in few words? Thank's!!!!
