1989 Pioneer promo 8-inch laserdisc 06306

Ойын-сауық

With Rich Quattrone, Pioneer's US spokesman giving a bit of laserdisc history and the point it reached at this time. Disc is a bit warped hence the unstableness in the middle.

That’s because this disc was a bit warped.

And the player I’m using now plays this disc much better, hardly any glitches.

15:04 awww. Within about 6 years of this recordable CD’s were everywhere. And 7 years later, DVD. I think laserdisc was at its height here wasn’t it? It was the superior, unobtainable video tech I always wanted. By the time I could afford it, DVD’s were here. Now I’m in a halfway point between Blu-Ray and 4K. 4K is the superior, unobtainable tech. In so much as I’d need a new TV and Disc player and receiver. I threw a ton of money into Blu Ray as an early adopter. By the time 4K arrived I was in an entirely different world and just can’t afford to spend all that money all over again. I’m not even considering streaming. With the recent discovery of alterations to movies, movies and shows just being removed also. I like to know I have the discs I OWN to watch. Never mind the vastly superior audio, video quality AND supplemental features optical media gives me. Streaming is convenient, but can vanish in an instant if your broadband goes down or studio licenses lapse. (And is what your watching the same thing you saw in the cinema? These days of streaming platforms, who knows!?!) Sorry for the rant.

I could have purchased this player for $75 from Half-Price Books a year ago, but am happy enough with my $25 Pioneer Laserdisc Player from Half-Price Books which came with my choice of 5 discs.

Well, the format did last for over 20 years. Not bad for this era of rapid technological evolution.

Not one word about Philips. Of course, they want to promote their own name, but Philips was very important for the Laserdisc.

Oh, this demo came from an 8" disc. I was hoping they didn't make a player that couldn't play 12"!

There was a portable player that only played 8-inch discs, I think it was made for business presentations.

Can anyone knowledgeable about laser discs please help me? I worked at a Walmart in 1989 through 1995. We had a demo of a laser disc that showed a digital bird flying around, I think at one point crashing into water and then riding it again? I am trying to find a video of this for fun and am bordering on obsession! Any ideas I can chase down?
