    Most of the guys I know like that are gearheads and just enjoy all kinds of vehicles. They usually drive a truck because it's more practical for their blue collar, physical labor lifestyle. Sure, you have some truck guys who fit the stereotype. I find it ironic that in an age where we have the ability to communicate with just about anyone around the world, we've allowed ourselves to fit everyone into a specific category based upon visual clues alone.

    I live in North Dakota. I'd love to have a quirky little Japanese car, but my friends would absolutely roast me. They already give me shit about driving a Nissan Altima. Although I don't know that I'd call their trucks "dick trucks." Most of them use their trucks for work and they're not dressed up with windshield stickers, custom pipes, etc.

    Japan seemed to "get" the idea the PT Cruiser was going for. The Figaro, Honda Beat, Pao, Alto Lapin etc - they're affected and twee but charismatic, whereas the PT Cruiser had no cuteness, it was unlikeable.

  • @stevethepocket

    @stevethepocket

    3 жыл бұрын

    The problem with the PT Cruiser was that it was based off cars from the 1930s, of all things. An era no one was nostalgic for, and whose actual cars weren't even that good looking. I _think_ it was meant to be a watered-down version of the Plymouth Prowler, which was based on '30s cars that got salvaged from junkyards and turned into hotrods by greaser types in the '50s. But watering that down, again, just turns it back into a stock '30s car.

    @@spiv_gennedy I recently got back into a 2002 Focus ZX3 hatchback. It's so small that it can practically snake through the gaps between cars and parallel parking is a joke. It's also enough power to get out of its own way in a bad situation and the low, tiny nature of it all makes it feel like you're zooming all the time, even if you're not. Having just sold a nicer, newer SUV with almost triple the horsepower, I so vastly prefer the nimble little hatchback over the bulky box on wheels for the driving that I do daily.
