1989 Alabama vs Tennessee: "Siran Stacy Explodes"

Спорт

Alabama RB Siran Stacy was UT's bane on this October Saturday: 125 yards rushing, 9 catches for 158 yards and 4 touchdowns. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest performances an Alabama player has ever had.

Next to Lane Kiffen Homer Smith is the best OC Bama has ever had.

Amen. As much as I love Coach Stallings, I wish he and Homer could have seen eye to eye during Smith's second run at Bama.

Me too. Stallings just preferred a smash-mouth offense, he's old school we have to remember.

This is what a Homer Smith offense looked like. He led UCLA to two Rose Bowl wins under Terry Donahue and Bama to two bowl wins in three seasons as the OC under Curry including a Sugar Bowl appearance in 1989 only falling to eventual Nat. Champion Miami 33-25 in New Orleans. Alabama so owns the Vols, they had to get a Bama born and bred winner, Jeremy Pruitt to lead them now. Mike Shula was the coach, the last time UT won a game in this series. And that was only by double-teaming RB Tim Castille in that 2006 game in Knoxville and twisting him so to blow out his knee. They did the same thing to OT Wesley Britt in 2nd qtr of the 2003 and it took many OT's only then to win that game. But Johnny Majors had class in victory and defeat. Phillip Fulmer was a supreme A$$. Now he's Pruitt's boss as AD. Sorry, Tennessee.

This was back when Legion Field looked half way decent. By the time we got out of there in the early 2000's, that place was a pile crap. I was talking to someone the other day who actually told me that Alabama football lost something when they moved all of the home games to Bryant Denny. I was like "WTF??". I mean, yes, there was a time when Legion Field had it's place in Bama football history, but that time has clearly passed. I have been to Iron Bowls at both Legion Field and Bryant Denny and I can say that I like Bryant Denny better, hands down. And the atmosphere is just as electric as it was in Birmingham. Shoot, I think it's better. This person told me "the Iron Bowl doesn't belong in Tuscaloosa". Well, that is someone who is loving in the past, as far as I'm concerned. I'm so glad that ALL of our home games are at Bryant Denny now

I wouldn't mind if they played some games there hell they used to play some games at legion field in Mobile I don't think there's anything wrong with tradition as long as it doesn't interfere with winning either way there's no dought that Alabama is the greatest football program in the history of college football

Bill Curry was a much better coach than he gets credit for I think if they would have let him coach he would have won them a national championship the next year. They must have been riding him pretty hard to make him quit and go to Kentucky just think about that for a minute.

Was talking about this past year lol, for some reason Curry coached scared to death against them! He tried to play finesse football and Pat Dye had his teams ready! Alabama was a better team in his 3 meetings with Auburn too!

Curry's squads could not get themselves up after a big win for some reason. Case in point: losing to Florida after beating Penn St. in 1987, losing to Notre Dame after a big win in LSU in 1987, losing to Ole Miss at home after a HUGE comeback win against Kentucky in 1988, and when the pressure was on in '89 with a 10-0 record losing to Auburn and then Miami.

Curry was 0-10 lifetime vs Pat Dye. (includes his stint at Georgia Tech before coming to 'Bama; he never faced them his first three years at Kentucky, aka Coach Dye's last three years at Auburn.)

ArrowJ Smith Yeah Bama went 10-0 before losing to Auburn and Miami in 1989. You’re thinking of 1987 when we lost 13-10 to Memphis State (as they were known at that time).
