1988 True Value Candlepin Bowling Championship - Full Telecast
Спорт
Original air date: 8/27/1988. The 1988 Candlepin Bowling Championship show was the first one to be broadcasted from the Pilgrim Lanes in Haverhill. It was also one of the best Championship shows as well in the entire history of the show itself, due to a HUGE crowd, pins flying EVERYWHERE, lots of bonus money, clutch performances, and of course, some of the most SHOCKING moments you will ever see during certain matches.
The top five bowlers from this show were: Dick O'Connell, Gary Carrington, Joe Ashline, Tom Olszta, and Dan Myrick.
Enjoy and R.I.P. Don Gillis and Pilgrim Lanes.

@goomba1982 I've seen that 1988 national aerobics championship. I was alive back then and old enough to remember stuff like that. Funny enough growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, one thing I didn't get to see growing up was candlepin bowling.
The algorithm brings us together again! - Yes, candlepin is going strong (though we miss Pilgrim Lanes), and we livestream matches on our channel. We don't have all the workings of television, but we aim above all to feature as many bowlers, leagues, and venues as possible. Other great channels/shows: Wolfman (obviously), Alley Chat, King of the Palace, New England Candlepins, Candlepin Bowling Channel. - Rule 1: three balls: you still get a strike in one and a spare in two, but getting ten on the third ball is as important as a free throw. On one match in this video alone, that proves critical. Marks are tough to get, and everyone in this audience doubtless knows that! That's why everyone's so hype. - Rule 2: the pins stay put unless it jumps a foot in front of the plate, and as long as you don't throw a gutterball, you can use it on the next shot. - Oh, you think this game's easy just because the ball's smaller? Come and try it here in the Northeast (incl. Canada). Sure, a kid can roll the ball, but against those tiny toothpicks, it takes balance, power, and accuracy to score highly! ~Greg G

I can't believe I'm watching this on youtube. I'm from Concord NH and Boutwell"s bowling alley. Gosh this reminds me of candlepins for cash out of boyleston bowl a drome. I was a world champion in 1967 at the big 20 in Scarborough Maine. It's great to see some of the terrific competitors from days ago. Thank you Wolfman12395 for finding these.

Most amazing thing in this vid, nobody looking at their phone or holding phones up to take video. Somehow they still seemed to enjoy the event.
I dont even watch sports but this was recommended and i watched it all while the superbowl was on😅
Did you all just randomly end up here like me? At 11pm when you have work in the morning? No ? Just me?
I watched these well before 1988. Candlepin is a New England thing.
No idea how I started watching this but I kept on till the end.
Happy Birthday to Don Gillis, who would've been 99 today.
Tom beat me on the last show of the year to make the telecast. We were tied halfway through. The third string didn't go so well for me and went very well for Tom.

This used to come on after Saturday morning cartoons in the Boston area.
I haven’t a clue how I got here. I watched the whole thing.
Honestly I have no idea how I got here and at first put it on to see what candlepin was and can't believe I'm still watching this,it is amusing and different but can't believe I haven't ever seen/heard of this before
If this had commercials it would be even better
Myrick’s magnificent mullet 😎👍
This hit the algorithm somehow seems like I'm not the only one who decided to watch some bowling haha
What a fucking electric treat of a video
Tom is all bummed out bowling a 93. That would be a masterpiece by me lol.
This is bowling in another dimension
I see Mike jotting down things on a small scratch pad or something, probably taking scores and small notes that we might get to read in his book!
I have no idea how I ended up here but hey, let’s watch some bowling! BTW, my uncle that just passed away a few days ago once bowled a perfect 300! He would average 260/game. RIP uncle Gene!
Why am I watching this at midnight trying to go to bed…
I don't know why this is in my recommended videos. But here I am.
I’ve got no idea what or why l’m watching this, but l kinda dig it.
Finally they have released this rare footage!

It was always a heck of a choice when I bowled league as a kid. I could try to throw it hard and get pin action but roll more gutter balls, or I could slow down and roll it more accurately but never got any pin action to get big scores. The grownups who could do both with no tradeoff seemed like magicians to me when I watched them on TV back in the day.
What a choke by Ashline
Not sure why I'm watching this but it made me think back to the good old 90s, growing up and watching The Next Generation on TV. And what do you know!? A damn star trek TNG commercial pops up! Ima go watch some star trek now ✌🖖
Dan Myrick is the King of Cool.
Let the algorithm pump this video to us all
The people sitting directly behind these guys' backswing are braver than I am. Imagine the bowler losing grip and seeing that rock coming right for your head.
The KZread overlords demonstrate their prowess once again. In between Tim Dillon and Dr Disrespect recommendations, this beauty is presented to me, and I've been sitting here for, what... Thirty minutes? Taken to a place I never knew existed. Yet now realize, a place I have always wanted to be. THEY KNOW WHO WE ARE.
I love ESPN Ocho-tier sports like this. So strange and niche and interesting
One of the only reason I miss living in Mass. Hanson Bowladrome and the old place that was in downtown Whitman were my haunts. Dad sitting at the desk smoking Winston Lights writing handwritten scores while my fat ass ate Funyuns and ran to the arcade every so often. Good times
I’d expect to see candlepin bowling in the back room of a video arcade in which all games are those flip the quarters into the metal truck style. Right next to them would be the pinball machines with one flipper broken. Also, Macho Man Savage shirt classes up the place in front row right next to his two buddies Rainbow shirt Randy and broke a$$ Hunter S Thompson in the indoor, no light will ever hit my eyes sunglasses.
Seeing this sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole… apparently no one has ever bowled a 300 in candlepin, and the only places to try in the US are in Massachusetts, Maine, or New Hampshire.
I remember watching this on tv. Dan was a fellow school student of mine.
Gotta love the guy that keeps yelling "Easy spare" as Gary's ready to throw the ball. Probably someone from Canada that was jealous of all his title wins up there.
Dude has some serious power in those throws

A lot of candlepin lanes have closed over the last 20+ years and it's too bad that we can't get the kids into the game. Bowling in all forms has declined over the last several years due to people not having extra money to do it.
