    Beautiful example!!! Third gen Trans Am is the first car that impressed me as a kid so many years later I bought one! :-)

    I bought that exact model Trans Am back in 1993 from the Pontiac dealership's used cars. It was in pristine shape except for a minor scratch on the headlamp. The car soon cost me as much in repairs and maintenance as it did for the purchase price before I traded it in years later.

    I had a 1989 Flame Red Metallic GTA with the light grey leather interior. T-tops, auto, 5.7 liter. Loved that car. The buttons on the steering wheel only came on the cars equipped with the cassette player. Though few were equipped the 1989 also had a cd player and those steering wheels did not have the buttons on the wheel. Anyway, I had the car with me while attending UNL (Huskers). I wasn't doing well in school so after just two years my parents drug me back up to Alaska to attend UAA. Had to sell the car, but bought a new GMC Sierra Stepside that I pimped out that could run with the 454 SS and Lightning of the day. Memories.

    Timeless classic. Even here in Germany you saw a lot of these in the 90s.

    I've said it on many other videos but...this is IMO the best looking American car ever made. I Love these.

    the GTA is the pinnacle of this gen T/A. I always have been especially fond of these GTA specific wheels, they just scream 1980s racing, very unique. Dodge borrowed those for their evasive and mysterious Dodge M4S car in the 80s also.

    In 1989 I had one almost exactly like that one when I was a Staff Sergeant in the Army. The only, and I mean “only” difference was it had the all digital dash, which really made it look futuristic, and a standard transmission.

    Georgeous classic! Underrated at 220-230HP whichever they rated it that year. These things will shear tires to shreds Lol.

    I had the same car but it was black on black and it was a burnout & Donut king. The center caps on the one in the video is not original. I also had the digital dash. The seat were incredibly adjustable. I couldn't stand the peanut butter interior so I had to custom order mine. Just couldn't find a black interior. Ended up selling it to start a business and about 5 years later I was looking to replace it. I acty tried to find the guy who bought mine because I did some work to the engine so the Grand Nationals owners were left scratching their heads after getting blown off the line. Originally the car did 0-60 in 6.5 seconds., not that great now but considering the Lamborghini ^ Ferrari did 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. After my work my GTA did it in 4 seconds flat without the perfect start or slicks. Loved that car. Just a Dream summer for me. 23 years old just broke up with a. Old girlfriend and I look full advantage of the summer. The 80's were a decade that everyone should experience! Still looking for one of these. Did do well in that business that allowed me to buy a 458 Ferrari but for what ever reason that car and those memories are sold gold to the grave for me. Would love a black on black next to the Ferrari!

    Ordered one brand new in '88 it was this color, flame red metallic. GM build quality was kinda crappy back then. Had a lot of electrical issues ( steering wheel controls for the stereo went out first after just 2 years) and went thru tires front & back fairly quick but it was a blast to drive. It was the last american car I owned. Traded it in for a Honda Accord 6 years later.

    when you smog out a motor it can hold onto the torque a lot easier . You can rebuild the engine stroke it to a 383 and buy a top end kit for it and youll make over 450 horsepower . sbc is a sbc

    So i just found out that my grandpa has one of these in his garage in allmost perfect condition. Since i never drove an automatic gearbox (We don't have a lot of that here in Germany) i wanted to ask what the leters mean P = Park R = Reverse N = Neutral OD = ? (Looks Like an O with a D in the middle) D = Drive 2 =? 1 =? Thank you :)

  • @wayne2160

    @wayne2160

    5 жыл бұрын

    TheOnlyBit it’s a 4 speed transmission 1st means first gear, 2 means 2nd gear D means drive and is your 3rd gear, OD is 4rd gear and is your over drive

  • @randallsherman1309

    @randallsherman1309

    5 жыл бұрын

    We should add that OD being Overdrive, means it's your highway gear - you should only use that when you're out on the highway and already up to cruising speed

    Its in very good condition , but not a collectors car the only rare 3rd gen trans am Was the 1989 3.8 Turbo Trans Am only 1500 ever made & it came equipped with the same engine found on the Grand National .it was the fastest car in 1989 even faster than a (Corvette) ran 12s 1/4 , 0-60 4.6 secs thats faster than most cars today.

    Angel. Of course the gta is a collector car. It's a classic American muscle that stopped production in 1992. Getting more rare each year. Not a collector car. I've heard it all now.

    There's nothing "rare" about 3rd gen Trans Ams. 30 year old cars with low miles, especially Firebirds/Camaros etc, are rare.

    Im not hatting on the 3rd gen but if you look up the production number it shows that GM made about 9 thousand every year , here in the Bay Area you see them for sale in good shape for under 4k $ - now look up how many 1989 3.8 Turbo trans am were made ! 1,555 to be exact . And check out performance specs. Numbers dont lie , now thats a collectors Car . The current sale prices go for over $20,000 usd.

    The center caps on the wheels aren’t original. A true gta has the caps that say WS6 on them. Not the bird. The transmission on those was the 700r4... GARBAGE!!!! The trans mounts used to go bad at least twice a year. They also overheated in traffic because of not having an open grill. Tires wore out pretty fast. Alternator was common to go out every other year. The car was undriveable if it was raining, it would literallly fishtale on every stop and go. The rear spoiler was infamous for cracking do to sun exposure.

    edbtzkhud my friend had a 1987 Trans am GTA just like this but had a 305 5 speed was fun to drive had its issues just like any 80s car like alternator would go out maybe the water pump but ran good . I think maybe cus it was a stickshift was a little more reliable . Im a Mustang guy and Mustangs arent perfect either but they are cool to work on and fun drive .
