Pete Axthelm. Amazing. He's been dead for 25+ years as of May 2016. He was only 47 at his passing.

Which made him 43...43[!!!]] during this show! Died awaiting a liver transplant at 47 from acute hepatitis - that’s one hell of a drinking problem!

The AFC East is interesting: there have been years when the entire division is in the playoff hunt, but also stretches in which one team dominants (Dolphins in the 1970's, Bills from 1988-1995, and the Patriots since 2001).

Interesting that Berman mentions only 1 late game (Giants/Redskins). Granted, there were only 2 other late games (Broncos/Chargeres, Bucs/Rams), but he usually mentioned final scores even with other games still going on.

There was a clip of the NFL Live! halftime report of the Week 12 (Week 13 had a week not been wiped out by the 1987 strike) Chargers-Oilers game (on chrisivison07's channel) had Bob Costas and Paul Maguire discussing how the "in the grasp" rule robbed Cincinnati of a touchdown in the game vs. the Jets shown here (this was following a recap of the Browns-Colts game in which the "in the grasp" call cost Colt cornerback Eugene Daniel a touchdown off an interception). That rule seemed to come up a ridiculous amount of times in games I've seen from the 1980s. I can understand the reasons (wanting to protect the QB) but quite a few of those were way too arbitrarily called where a quarterback wasn't down or even in the defender's control.

Wow Patriots had yet to win an overtime game in TEAM HISTORY at this point in 1987!

And Gayle Gardner wasn't there for long, when did she leave the Primetime desk this early or what week?

+IvoryM1986 It would almost have to be because Gayle was on her way to NBC (she started there in January 1988). It looks like Gardner was probably sitting out a non-compete clause in her contract.

Definitely week 11! The Patriots shutout win over the Indianapolis Colts was during week 10! I distinctly remember after 10 weeks, ALL 5 AFC East division teams were 5-5 (tied for 1st place? tied for LAST place?) 🤔 😮 🧐
