1987 Suzuki Alto walk-around
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Fun times at Bruce Henn's Garage. This is either the only, or one of maybe...I'm not sure... ten Altos in the United States right now. I only got to walk around it but I love it! Bruce will be working on this little gem for a while for another client. Thank you so much for letting me sit in it.

This car makes my Volvo 122 look like a Buick Roadmaster and makes my Buick Roadmaster look like the USS Nimitz. I'd love to have a funky little turbo hatch from 80s JDM land though. Preferably a Honda City Turbo II.

I can’t imagine the sheer amount of excitement you’ll get driving this nimble little car. You can literally be one with the car. We need cars like these in terms of cars today splattered with all kinds of accessories.
loads of these Alto's driving in The Netherlands, populair with young people
Man, a 550cc Alto Works was probably the funnest car I've ever owned. I had a 1989 RSR. Ended up bending the frame after failing to properly negotiate a S turn. The 550cc Alto Works are worth a small fortune nowadays though. They're near impossible to find in Japan. Whoever bought this car got really lucky.

We have tons of these in India, owing to a long standing JV between Suzuki and Maruti (an Indian manufacturer), ours weren't turbos, but a 3 cylinder, 796cc engine was standard. I have an Omni, the Indian version of the Suzuki Super Carry. Same powerplant, and since mine is a 1994 model, the engine was a full import from Japan. 20+ years on and 200,000 kms never had its Engine opened up. Curious to see what this car becomes :)

Hey, the Suzuki alto was my dad's first car in India :). They sold like hot cakes over there back in the 90's. Very popular. Later on though, the Swift replaced them.
at the end when you crawled out it reminded me of jim carrey climbing out of the rhinos ass
I have always loved the Alto since I was a little kid, and the only reason I knew about it was vecause of gran turismo 3. Yeah, PS2. I missed the '90's by a year.

FUCK YES. One of my dream cars is an Alto Works RSR. I'm so happy you got this on here, Mr. Regular. Kei cars are kickass.
I love Brian's reaction to seeing these neat little cars. He reminds me of my own child like facination with certian things! You can tell he is a super nice guy!
I will always have a soft spot for Kei cars! Just the "packaging" of everything is amazing, specially the engine and some of the commodities. Looking forward to a review of this. :)
Oooooh boy that red Nova. Looking good. Lot of classic cars in that garage.
I never thought black and pink could work as an interior but that looks way rad ! Reminds me of my Festiva but incomparably cooler
So much tech packed into these wee cars. Pretty ahead of their time in a lot of ways.

I had a 2013 Suzuki Alto until I was in an accident and it got written off and it was after that when my family told me they'd be scared for me going on long road trips 😬
This car has inspired me. It gives me reasons to live. So small. So cute. So turbo. So complicated.
Why do you make perfect car videos? This is exactly what I do whenever I sit in a new car. The entire time I was expecting something to break off.
good ole PS2 Gran Turismo days
These are such badass little cars! I at one point looked into getting an alto works awd one that was being sold in Pennsylvania.
The "No sir..." line reminds me that I refer to gentlemen I don't know as sir now since starting watching RCR, and I'm happy for that :D
his operation is so legit. look at how clean that shop is.
Wow guys, thanks for taking me back to my glory days of Gran Turismo 2.
I want one, this is the funniest car I have seen in a while. But there is something about it that makes me really really want it.
This (regular version) was my dads first car, I remember going on a ton of roadtrips in it - it can fit so much luggage its mindbending. He still only buys Suzukis.
I used to have an alto back in my home country and they're quite entertaining things!
The interior color is amazing. This looks like the kind of car Jem would drive.

I have that magnetic Snap-On light you guys were using and it's the best thing I've bought in a long time!
Jolly impressed to see one of these on US soil - let alone a turbocharged version. Looks like great fun to drive.
These things are still running with new generations in India and Japan.
This car looks SO FUN!
The Japanese love their boxy little cars and I do too. I never thought I'd say it, but I love the 1st gen Scion xB. I was dreading purchasing it, but it met my budget and my needs. As I laid in bed the night before I sealed the deal, I had an epiphany: the xB is actually the perfect car. It is cheap so it doesn't have extra gizmos adding to it's mass or to distract from the driving experience. It is a box so it holds several people, things, or thing-people (?) comfortably. It has a stiff suspension, is low to the ground and a manual so I can scream at the canyon in my new town "I came here to drive this car for all it's worth and chew bubblegum". And that's exactly what I do.
You should visit Malta. The amount of cars and diversity we have is astounding for a 120 squared mile island. You can find anything from tiny Altos, Capuccinos, Justies to big American cars and GTR's to heavily modified cars. You'd enjoy it.
Can't wait for you guys to review this.
It's so small and cute, I want to hug it!
What an adorable little car I really want one now...
Love these little cars!
Bruce must have a great sense of humor and the patience of a saint. I don't know that I could let you loose in my shop. No offence.
I have a generation after this, an 89 Alto Works RS/X. Currently torn down in the garage, when it's going I'd LOVE to have it reviewed should RCR ever be in the Midwest!
These are still on sale in India for anyone interested, fun lil cars you can toss around.

Haloid Android you guys have the shitty India built AC800s and Alto 800s.these JDM models are far more Superior
I first found out about the Suzuki Alto from Gran Turismo 2 loved that car ever since
Thats a sick little econobox. I want two.
This car (yup this particular one) is called the "Maruti Suzuki 800" in India and it changed the Indian automotive industry. This was the most popular car for years. I have a slighter newer model (interiors are the same with slightly more modern exteriors than the one shown in the video). It is 17 years old. It is a 5 door hatchback, with a 6 valve 3 cylinder carbureted 800cc petrol engine. It only has 37 hp but certainly feels like it has more than 37 hp anyday, due to the power delivery nature I guess. Moreover, it also handles pretty well. I just love it.
The Alto Works is the AWD variety. And I love it.
damn, that car is really loveable somehow. its so beatifully spartanic and simple and fun :)
My friend owns an Alto, a newer one however. It was fun to drive I guess, learned to drive on it. Blew the clutch up but still fun!
My sister drives a 1991 Suzuki Alto, which she bought in 2021. It's now her everyday car, driving it to the office, to COSTCO, to our vacation home in Hawkes Bay, etc.
I hope you get to review this. It's awesome!
oh man ill be super happy if you review this!
So. Much. Want! I need one of these in my life so bad! The most awesome commuter vehicle! Feel like an absolute hooligan just driving to work! (While still within the boundaries of the law.)
Drove an alto works a few years back. Fun car.
That telescopic thing on the side is a seat height adjustment. My '99 Outback had one.
What a cool little car!
It's about the size of a NES? Nice comparison!
Stateside, those came in '88 as the Chevy Sprint.. A replacement for the aging, yet durable, T-car platform. (
I laughed when you referenced GT1. The Demio, lol I remember that car.
That car was sold here as a Chevy Sprint and later became a Geo Metro. I had an 86 Sprint without the turbo. As slow as it sounds, with the a/c on it wouldn't maintain highway speeds. But it did get 49 mpg. The three cylinder would vibrate so bad it eventually walked out the bell housing bolts and the engine freed itself from the transmission.
As soon as he said oh hazards work I'm thinking... Good you'll need those the whole time your driving this thing!
The turbo AWD works model is the one to get. Ridiculousy fun to drive, also excellent for tightening ones ring at >100Kph....
The alto works is the sporty version of the alto and are still pretty popular in Japan. When importing these kei cars you might as well import from 1990 (I think) models onwards after they raised the displacement from 550 to 660cc.
My favourite kei cars · Subaru Vivio RXR = a rallycar, like a minuscule version of an Imprezza 22B. It raced the Safari Rally a couple of times and, yes, McRae drove it. It must be awesome to even see one! · Daihatsu Copen Mk1 = cabrio-coupe, I feel like it must be extremely fun going down a mountain pass · Suzuki Jimmy or Mitsubishi Pajero Mini = offroad kei car... that must be so much fun to drive!!!
One of my favorite cars!
547cc of kei goodness, looks like a works edition too. . Usually on Japanese built 3 door cars only the passenger seat will side forward when the back is tilted to let people into the back.
We have these things in Europe too (in LHD!), fantastic little machines
I might need to add this or the Cappuccino to my dream garage. Kei cars are cool as hell.

7:30 xD I was so hoping you we're gonna have to be like, "*ahem* Bruce...Bruce! Um, I'm stuck in here, can you give me a hand?"
I literally yelled, "Don't pop that flare!!" when you were messing with it.
Mr Regular is going to have a field day in the UK. City Cars ("Micro Cars") are super common here, and the Alto has only just been phased out. Also, fog lights are on the back. All cars outside the USA have them as standard equipment by law.
i love that car, wish i had one, suzuki makes nice engine notes haha
Suzuki Alto Works RSR Turbo??? So cool! I love these little "performance" k-cars!! Would love to see a review.
Mr. R was hyped for that flare
I hope you guys get to review a GMC Cyclone or GMC Typhoon! I'd LOVE to see those reviews!
Listening to Mr R fiddling with the interior is like the automotive equivalent of an ASMR vid lol
My sistaer had the last Suzuki Alto 800cc (from India), really cool car, believe me, really fun to drive, not so much in the highway, but in the city, really fun....
this is awesome!
awesome little car
Memories... I drove a n/a 800cc one in the Netherlands for my internship. Same body style. No... I wouldn't be seen in one so it wasn't mine. But in the USA? Oh yeah!
super rad!! I love it. totally reminds me of gran turismo lol!
Love it! I want this car, but with left steering.
I absolutely love shit like this.

+John C All Japanese cars that have been licensed to drive on the road have flares as it's a legal requirement (which I think is still in effect but not sure). Not all imports have them though sometimes they get removed.
@ItchyKneeSon
8 жыл бұрын
+Lextube Yeah, it's still required, but they don't have to be less than two years old anymore. There just has to be one in the car. The laws, for keis at least, just relaxed a bit recently. 3 years ago they made sure the rear wiper worked and that it sprayed washer fluid, but when I got it checked last year, they didn't even look at it.

Mitsubishi UK imported some Pajero Evolutions in ( which we called Shogun), they sold all 50 & then had to issue a recall because they forgot to remove the road flares, not legal in the UK unfortunately.

Zerofightervi not legal here in Ireland either but mind you I still have mine in my Chaser. It's way too cool to take out lol.
It's the same as a Maruti 800. We've had those Altos in Europe as well, so there are left hand drive versions. But I don't remember them being turbocharged, this is probably due to the kei car rule in Japan, where the engine must have less than 600cm³ displacement or something like that.
I had an 87 turbo Sprint until 2010. I sold it double what I paid used for it in 1992. That 3 cylinder had a ton of guts. Reliable. Fast. Fun. 155 tires worked alright even though there was torque steer galore. Mine was a 993CC. What is this? Mine was 70 HP.
Mr Regular can you tell us what camera stabilizer you used to get a smooth shot when following the car inside Bruce's shop?

Hey! a Kei car on Regular Cars! No way! It's the turbo version with A/C and aftermarket radio?! Consider me sold! I need one in my life!
tell you something interesting, this car was extremely famous in China, it kinda developed chinese vehicle industry, and still manufactoring (yes, today, suzuki Alto, they are still manufacturing now, 2016 model with 1L 3 cylinders N/A engine with 71hp, and around 8100 usd). it is good in fuel efficiency, and cheap. its has a 5door version, for most Asian people body size, enough room for 4 people sit in it. in fact, the first car of my family was a Alto, but I can't remember it was a auto or manual transmission.
