I had an 88 just like this same color and everything and it was my favorite car I've ever had. Can't remember the number of miles when I sold it but I think it was 250,000. It was a beast that never had any problems or issues just normal oil changes and normal maintenance. I loved the side cornering lamps on it and loved the keyless entry on the door. The Equalizer was cool on the radio. I wanted one with the electronic instrument cluster but I couldn't get one couldn't find one it was near the end of the 88 model year. Think Nissan's quality has fallen over the years but this was when Nissan was at its peak. As long as I have my sanity and memory if I live to be a hundred I'll never forget driving up to the Nissan dealership to take delivery of my new Maxima and they had it in front of the showroom doors on display... it's the only car I ever kept that long. Bought it new in 1988 and sold it to a co-worker in 1998.

My aunt sold me her 88, almost the same color as this one, but doesn't have rooftop and the steering wheel looks different. A really good car overall.

this car was the Lexus!! back then. I was 10yrs old when my dad got the 1988 2 tone white and champaign exterior!! We drove it to Disneyland best ride and time ever!!!🤟🤟

I had one I scored off original owner for only $800, about 15yrs ago? Traded it in 3yrs later with 220k on it, for $1500. Only damage it had at purchase was a small dent on the driverside fender, other than that it was literally mint inside and out. It was a black gxe, 5 SPD manual (which at the time was rare. And I bet now, rarer still), I had the sunroof, adjustable struts (I've never seen a car since, that had factory adjustable struts). Sunroof, and thankfully mine didn't have the digital dash. I wasn't always kind to it (I was young, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) but it took that abuse and just shrugged it off. I accidently drowned it once, as a puddle I tried to go through ended up deeper than it appeared. Fried the ECU (which is under the passenger seat, for those who don't know), but local junk yard had a couple of these sadly. I couldn't find a manual for shit though, as all were autos, so, I took an ECU from one of those, and thankfully, it worked. I had the oil changed immediately, flushed out the diff, and changed my air filter as it did unfortunately take in water. And drove it another yr+ after that. No issues. No electical issues, nada. These were 100% underated cars. And it really is a damn shame, Nissan no longer builds their vehicles to the same standards, and quality like they did these years.

My parents bought a 1987 Maxima. It was very luxurious for the time and was even nuvpcer than many Mercedes or BMW's back then. By 1992 the Maxima was not nearly as nice becuase Infinty was the new luxury car put out by Nissan.. so they made the Maxima less luxurious and instead focused on the Infinity for luxury.

I would love to get in contact with you. My 1987 nissan maxima sat for 8 years and some dang rats or squirrels ate some of the wiring harness. I am trying to get a new wiring harness or detail pictures of the engine bays so i can see which wires were chewed up compared to a car that is running. ridiculously hard to get parts like a wiring harness for this car. I had to replace the fuel pump, tank, and filter so now the car gets fuel but it wont start. new wires, cap, rotor, ign control module, and new ign coil. Because some of my vacuum lines and wires were chewed I am stuck right now trying to get this car running.
