1986 snapper restoration pt 4

The 1986 RER 11hp Snapper is finally finished!!! I did a little more than I thought I would, but it was worth the time. Although not a complete restore its pretty close. i may do a little more at a later date, but for now I think she's a gem.

I have the same exact mower and have the big bagger and Thatcher...the old thing cuts great and great for sucking up leaves...I've replaced quite a few parts on mine to keep it running...they should of never stopped making these mowers!! ..the models with the handlebars are the best!!! its so simple to maintain...one of the best mowers ever made...nice job with restoring yours!!

@@ranflee1 my engine is original to but it's getting tired..would like to rebuild it...got new friction wheel and shifter gate I need to replace cause it won't stay in reverse unless you hold it in..just worn out..and the best thing about these mowers is the suction..I have three maple trees in my yard and I don't even need to rake..I use my leaf blower to blow leaves away from house and garden flower bed etc. And suck them up with the snapper and empty bags at road..our town does spring and fall pick up...I'm not the most mechanical guy but I been able to keep this mower going by just watching videos and looking up stuff on internet....it pulls my 800 pound lawn roller too..my yard is pretty flat...

That’s another thing I like about these snappers . Very easy to work on.

Must be a herd of us old Snapper guys. I pulled out my 80-something Snapper from under the house last month, where it's been for almost 30 years! I have done a complete restoration on it. Still editing and uploading video clips as I can finish them! Odd it seems to take longer to make the videos, than it does to work on the machines! Great looking machine you have there.

Thank you. Yes it sure does take more time to produce a video than doing the work. I’ll have to check out your videos. Love the old snappers.

Looks good. Makes me want to pull my 80s model snapper out of the corner of the garage and restore it. Unfortunately time is holding things up. Until that time my 99 rer snapper will keep getting the job done😎

Definitely understand the time issue . It was the reason I was unsure if I wanted to do full restoration. It was sure a challenge finding the time to work on it, but in the end it was well worth it. If you haven’t already please subscribe. I have an interesting project coming soon.

Love the video! I just found an 1987 3311X6S at the local implement dealer for $50. Didn't run at first. Some TLC and everything works. I have some parts on order. New blade and carb rebuild kit. I haven't looked underneath yet. I know i need to get a new clutch cable. Now i know how to replace that. I was debating on how to repaint. I like how yours turned out. Thankyou for the info!

@@ranflee1Just did my 1986 1133, l used the rattle can paint that is guaranteed not to peel. Came out great. There's no fenders and hood, the deck's the hardest part. You won't regret it 👍
