The Harrier formation was pure porn.... I still have problems with my Harrier but i looove it. The only fighter i would fly instead of the Harrier will be the Eurofighter once it is released.
I was a member of the 48th TFW/548th AGS/492nd AMU during the Libya raid. We covered the operation by having a local SALTY NATION exercise. They informed us of the operation by pulling the entire squadron to the middle of ramp and briefing us. We flew our normal exercise sorties minus the 24 aircraft (18 strikers, 6 air spares).

@@VET0264 Hey Chief thanks for your service. On the subject of aircraft, I worked at the end of the runway at Barksdale AFB in the late seventies and when the B-52's had a scramble, real mission or training you could not hear yourself think for a good 30 minuets. It was almost like placing your hand over your heart when we say the pledge of allegiance. What a great feeling. Thanks again, Les.

The Harrier is just one of the coolest things ever, not just cool amongst planes, but one of the coolest of all things. Makes you proud to be British; again. Great flying, great video; thanks.
Nicely done. These longer missions are always fun to watch :D
Great video, Cap. I have just been going thru the comments of this video and there are some USAF pilots actually watching this reenactment , which is incredible! Anyway, for anyone who doesnt know , I am the fella who requested the reenactment of the US airstrike against the Gaddafi regime aka this video

And that Syria map is gorgeous
It's a pleasure to watch you cooperate in such professional manner. I hope I can take off with you guys one day. ;)
Great video!! Love these longer mission videos
I absolutely love the cat grownling sound when the engines revving down a bit!
Whenever I hear/read "RAF Mildenhall" mentioned, I invariably think of the Pink Floyd song "Let There Be More Light" from Saucerful of Secrets....
I was stationed at NAS Rota Spain when that went down. One of the F111 was damaged and had to land in Rota. It had a big honking hole in it, probably from AAA.

Top notch flying is an understatement, and the mini airshow as the end was great. I do wish the correct aircraft where available for these missions, but we can't have everything. I would love to see more World War 2 naval assets like F-4F Wildcats, F-6F Hellcats, F7F Tigercat, F4U Corsairs, TBM/TBF Avengers, and SBD Dauntless'. (NOTE: I did not include the F-8f2 Bearcat as World War II was over before the aircraft saw combat service.)

Sorry I don't even know where it is on my PC. Will look.
outstanding base recovery!!!!
The guys flying the F111s had a hell of a time during the real thing. The auto pilot didn't auto level so refueling was done with the pilot holding altitude manually and in radio silence. It was many of their first combat missions. Too bad the Ardvaark isn't in DCS.
Fun fact: Libya didn't claim responsibility for the attack until 2003 when they agreed to pay Germany compensation for the attack and also to the families of the non-American victims. The Libyan government refused to pay compensation for any Americans killed in the discotheque bombing.
LOLs - I keep hearing the oddest mechanical device constantly spooling down - then I realized it was Pickles the Cat. I just realize she meows in a HARMONIC of the Harrier's engine.
Harrier= short take off / vertical landing, use your vectoring on take-off so your up in the air very quickly. Is there a video of anyone actualy doing this the way your supposed too?
RAF Lakenheath produced stickers Cap for the Op which said "Lakenheath Is Bombing Your Ass" (LIBYA) I had one on my little spotters notebook. lol Those were the days.

Both TH30 engine family, just different variants. the F-111Fs that flew the raid used the TF30-P-100 engine that at max thrust. 25,100 for the while the F-14A used the TF30-P-414A engine making 20,900 lbs thrust. Both TF30 engines use a afterburner design with 5 zones of augmentation.

I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall when this Op was staged. We were on 12 hour shifts for 30 days+ straight. Hundreds of KC-135 Stratobowsers and KC-10 Extenders came into Mildenhall to support the aircraft that Spain and France refused to let fly over their countries. We bombed the what-ist out of Libya, as we should have... FYI, it was this in retaliation of the bombing of a German Dicso but the Lockerby Scotland flight of a TWA flight
