@@pokemon3742 the 70’s were the wildest era ever, birth of the wedge shaped supercars, birth of Turbo sports cars, birth of Japanese sports car domination, birth of digital gauges with the Lagonda, birth of the crossover with the AMC Eagle, birth of the hot hatch in Europe, peak American land yachts, and the last era of true muscle cars.

They should bring back the tinkly non-electronic door/key chimes that cars used to have. I’m a 90’s baby and the last car we had that sounded like that was my dad’s Altima, which was a late 90’s model. By 2000 the ding dong sounds were totally over🥲

Kia and Hyundai still used it until I believe 2007 one of my fellow church members had a 2003 Kia Optima with the wind chime oh and my 8th grade teacher did as well.

@@CarringtonHollister such a throwback. I remember hearing a car do that on a 90’s sitcom (I think it was everybody loves Raymond) and I was like… “oh, RIGHT😮” childhood flooding back!

A friend from work had a Nissan Pulsar from around this time and it also had that child’s toy bell sound when you left the keys in the ignition. That would never fly today.

So typically my speedo reads "0" when driving and my turbo boost gauge will remain lit but inactive. Sometimes both will start temporarily working after I hit a bump. Then it will stop again when I hit another bump or turn off car. So will this self diagnostic test help me troubleshoot this issue? I'm thinking about replacing the speed sensor (do you know where its located?) and/or the speed pinion gear located on transmission. I just got this car and second owner and it has 44K miles and is in excellent condition and was well maintained and stored in garage (so no rust or "weather" that should be the culprit) . Appreciate any advice.

Saul Arizpe well that could be a number of issues, it it comes on and just reads "0" then I'd say it's the sensor, mine is mounted near the battery on the passenger side, it has a speedo cable running to it from the transmission. It's about as big around as a half dollar no big at all. Could be the cable isn't set properly on the sensor, tranny, or a bad connection electrically on the sensor.

OK appreciate the tip...I've ordered a speedo sensor and a boost sensor and hopefully that will fix it b/c I really dont want to take apart the dashboard. It looks like it's never been tampered with and would like to leave it that way ;-)...I'll try to update this post after the parts come in.

Saul Arizpe taking the dash apart isn't too much of an issue I did so to make the back lights green LEDs. Hardest part is keeping dust off of the inner LCDs when you reassemble

Matt, Thanks for the tips! I have an 85 300zx Turbo, restoring it now. Took the digital dash pc board out to clean and do a lil re-solder it as in another video. When I put it in, I'll do your restart instruction. 85 same as yours? I think I have 3 reset buttons. All bottom right of the display. But 1 is on top of the other 2. Same with you? And do I press only the bottom 2? Thanks!!

Tom Maddox The “diagnostic” per se is at the beginning when it goes through all of the numbers and colors on the tach. It’s just showing if all the LCD lights work and are the correct numeral.

Tom Maddox I’ve heard the power source box to the right of the dash under the dashboard has lose soldering and tapping it with a screwdriver can make it work intermittently. If that’s the case then simply resoldering the faulty points should fix it. Mine needed that.
