1986 F150 351w/ np435! Sunday drive, cold start!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We have been chasing carb/ fuel issues, removed the carb spacer. Found the throttle cable bracket was bent not allowing full throttle. The overall drive was good. The carb is now very responsive and delivering smooth power. The 3.55 rear gear is too low, but I am not sure if I will change it or not.

    That's great that you are redoing one. The dash pad came with the truck when my dad gave it to us. It was actually a tan pad. All the trim and dash that is black was painted with duplicolor spray dye. The radio is a Pioneer DEH-S6220BS. It has a handy app that allows you to control it and have the GPS speedometer. The door speakers are Skar, the tweeters are alpine eBay specials. There are 2 Punch 8" subs behind the seat. We 3d printed the radio adapter, we downloaded it from thingiverse.

    I have a question. I have a 1977 ford f100 with a 351w and I want to swap it to a 4 speed manual. Do u think the np435 will bolt right up? I have a auto transmission in it right now but I miss driving stick

  • @brokewheels5

    @brokewheels5

    7 ай бұрын

    It would be a lot of work, but I am sure I can be done. These are a few things you will need: a bell housing for the small block bolt pattern, 300 6, 302 or 351w. You will need a 351w flywheel, clutch and pilot bearing. I am not sure if the transmission cross member will interchange. Will also need a clutch pedal.

    @buttonysquare8501

    I have done it with a t5 in a 72 mustang from a fmx 3 speed auto to a 5 speed manual. A 3.8 v6 out of a 94-04 sn95 mustang had the exact same bellhousing as a 289, 302, 300, or 351. You may be able to use the auto bellhousing but I may be wrong. Personally I stole the clutch and brake pedal assembly out of the 97 mustang parts car and hooked up the clutch cable without issue. You do have to change out the input shaft to a 83-93 fox body input shaft to make it work but it is easy and like $60 to do it. There are lots of videos on doing it. The most important thing is you have to use a sn95 mustang 3.8 bellhousing, starter, an 80s truck 164 tooth flywheel that has a 28 oz imbalance, and the pilot bearing your motor used stock from rock auto for the year of the motor. You cannot use a 50 oz balance flywheel the newer vehicles use and it has to be 164 tooth for the newer starter. I used one off of summit racing/ rock auto for around $50. You will need to run new brake lines from the proportioning valve to the brake booster master cylinder if you decide to steal a pedal assembly out of a mustang, and I had to bend the 3/8-1/2 thick pedals about 1/2 an inch with the acetylene torch to clear the steering column in the mustang, but there were other truck 5 speed transmissions that existed between 1987-1996 that will fit the motor ZF5 and some other Mazda 5 speed, if you wanna do less work. Same thing applies though, you’ll have to steal a pedal assembly from newer stuff since the 1977 uses a z-bar mechanical clutch linkage. All this info is for a t5 swap. If you find a 3 or 4 speed from around the same time period of your truck it will be a much easier swap.

    is it a 2wd or 4wd? Regardless all you need is the transmission. The bellhousing to match a 351w. Then the driveshaft from either a 2wd or 4wd.

    The NP435 is literally bullet proof. If you're pulling stumps, or toting a lumber wagon out the woods, it's the tranny to have. It's not the one for the street, however. You loose a thousand plus rpm per shift.

Got a chik tons manual but unfortunately it hasn’t been too helpful, and there aren’t many videos of the 351’s in ‘86’s. Mainly just 302’s and 300’s.

    Well.... there is always much debate on low ratio vs the number. When I say low, the bigger the number the lower or shorter the gear. I should have stayed with the original 3.08. @@brokewheels53.42 is not real bad it’s the transmission. The NP-435 is very hard to destroy unless it runs out of oil. But it is basically a 3 speed since first is a granny. If you have a overdrive it drops the rpms into the 1,800-2,000 range but it’s a big pain to put one in.
