Now that's when trucks could still go off-road. I had a 1985 and couldn't hurt it. We went 4 wheeling damn near every weekend. Not much power in that 22R but it was enough to go anywhere I wanted to go. You have a beautiful truck.

I had this truck except I had the long bed. It was black with chrome all the way around and around hubcaps as well… it had the SR5 Pinstripe around it.. on SR5 on the seats as well. Mine was the 1985 and it had a sunroof and back sliding window. It just happened to be a special order at this dealership and my Son’s father (he was much older than me) he knew trucks well, knew I was getting a better deal so we jumped on it and bought it! He was tired of me wanting to always drive his lol! He had the standard 1985 (red) SR5 truck. So we bought that truck… and I took my new Toyota Corolla back to a different dealership back then… THIS WAS THE NICEST TRUCK I HAD EVER OWNED!! Last year for lift kit…(if that’s what you wanted to do) I liked mine the way it was. Tinted windows… back window was sliding which was special order back then as well. Sunroof was special order as well as the nice stereo in it and chrome all special order. I think paint job was special order too… & seats 💺 they had the SR5 all tiny written all over them & I don’t remember if Craig’s truck had that or not? I will always be grateful I got to own one of the best trucks ever and I sure wish I never would have let it go…but can’t wait to buy another truck 🛻 thinking I’m going for The newer Tacoma since I was born in Tacoma.. love these videos and thx for reading my story y’all!
I am probably the worst painter in the world, BUT that gloss black paint job is so perfect, could see the ripped dude’s reflection in the high gloss. I’ve read black is the hardest to get right. I can’t believe how good it looks.

Wow, you even custom fabricated the Smittybuilt bumpers and roll bar. Great job! I was just expecting to see a color change and some of the accessories but you took it much farther. I have a few of these trucks and loved the truck in the film. Everyone I know remembers the moment it was revealed in the garage as their dream truck. I would have loved to trade you a US spec bed for that Aussie bed. The US spec beds are much lower quality and rust even in the drier climates. The trucks were sent to the USA incomplete to avoid taxes and the domestically produced beds were installed to complete them.
@HeathsGarage
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, I’m glad you liked the build 😁 I did always wonder why the beds were different - a few people in the comments actually asked also. I never knew they were sent incomplete to the US.
@davidparker9676
3 жыл бұрын
@@HeathsGarage They installed the 4WD beds on most of the 2WD trucks as well. Some of the 2WD trucks did come with the "Japanese" bed with the flat sides and the top rail like the rest of the world market received. All 4WD trucks and the majority of the 2WD trucks came with the American-bed which rusted easily and the paint faded within a couple years, while the rest of the truck's paint held up well for many years. I personally like the look of the American bed but would rather have the durability and utility of the Japanese bed. Toyota successfully avoided paying taxes on the incomplete trucks, keeping the costs low and competitive for consumers. In the mid 1990s they began producing the majority of the popular cars and trucks in the USA to avoid the tariffs and import taxes... quality naturally suffered. I almost bought a new truck in 1998 but was very disappointed with the American-built Tacoma after the test drive. I drove home in my 1986 truck with a higher level of satisfaction and appreciation. Again, Great Job on your tribute truck.
