1985 McDonald's New McDLT Commercial

Precursor to the Big N' Tasty. I really liked this burger, though the huge Styrofoam container was a joke, both logistically and environmentally.

    Just order a regular Quarter Pounder, but ask them to add lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise on it. You can also order it as a “Homestyle” QPer but ask them to substitute ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise in place of their home style sauce. That’s what I do to try and recreate it! As a fellow lover of Mickey D’s, I hope this helps : )

    Actually, the styrofoam container was a clever concept. As the ad explains, it kept the cool toppings separated from the hot burger. Plus, for whatever reason, those burgers tasted a hundred times better in the styrofoam than any of McDonald's boxed burgers. The McD.L.T. was delicious!

    Mc Dlt for me ,QP with cheese for my bro, My dad always ordered the the Theodore Mc bastard w/o cheese. Of these 3 sandwiches the qp is the only survivor, the Mc bastard only was available in Arkansas for 86 and 87 because the name was offensive to some, it was pronounced bas tarrd, it could be ordered with artificial truffles, Arkansas was the test market because McDonald brass wasn’t sure how the name and sandwich would go over due to its potential to be called bastard instead of bastarde and if a burger with truffles would be a seller in the US, the bun was French bread with Dijon mustard or muss tarde as it was spelled on the styrofoam container in came in with a pic of the Eiffel Tower on it with Ronald hanging off the top Theodore was supposed to be Ronald’s cousin from Paris. The concept never made to nationwide distribution and was scrapped. Just a little history in burgerology

    I also often think of biting into a McDLT through the many years but sadly they discontinued them. If they and some customers felt it was a bother to put the 2 halves together which I loved doing, or that the lettuce or tomato may fall out of place by doing so, then why THE DARN didn't they change the McDLT back to the same way they did in the beginning with the 2 halves already joined together? Burger King does it why not McD? There is nothing wrong to have the tomato and lettuce be warmed up in a burger by serving the 2 halves already joined. OR if they want the 2 halves separate again since they sold maybe billions or is it many many millions? Then you mean to tell me they still can't come up with new packaging that will hold and keep the 2 halves separate other than styrofoam that was banned?

    They brought it back in two different variations (minus the hot side and cool side packaging). The first was the Arch Deluxe then the Big N Tasty. Then even now, depending on what region you're in, they have the Deluxe Quarter Pounder. I could be wrong, I think McDonalds got rid of the McD L.T. because they were receiving pressure from environmentalist about the styrofoam packaging and that killed the marketing for the hot side, cool side which further led to them discontinuing the use of styrofoam containers altogether.

It’s downfall unfortunately was the huge non-environmentally friendly Styrofoam package. Plus, the long-standing debate of which side the cheese really belonged on, hot, or cool? It wasn't new, but from what I can remember it was new for McDonald's bc I don't think they had a burger with lettuce and tomato. The Big Mac nor the Quarter Pounder had lettuce and tomato, that's why I was always a Whooper guy

    Although this burger was very tasty, my only gripe with it was where they placed the cheese. Isn’t it supposed to be on the hot side, melting with the meat…? I mean, who wants a cold stiff slice of cheese on a supposedly hot burger??

    Yes, but not that drastic of a jump in price, and people were making like 3 dollars an hour in 1985.

  • @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303

    @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@adrv5721 Yeah, somehow everyone thinks that prices dramatically increase because a wage is raised. 2 things people do not understand is that 1.) when the wage goes up, the price of the product will most likely go up a smaller amount 2.) the market will dictate what people are actually going to pay for the product. For instance, White Castle's slider was $0.25 in 1938 and it is like $0.72 in my area on a wage of $7.25hr. You could actually buy more sliders now than one could on an hour's wage in 1938. Another example is Arby's roast beef. It sold at a price of $0.69 in 1964, the wage was $1-1.15/hr in 1964. Now it is $3.49, in my area, on a wage of $7.25hr. So, I guess Arby's did decide to price it up, but people are still buying it at that price to keep it at that. What people are not realizing though, for any priced fast food sandwich, is that there are deals one can take advantage of. One could easily slash the price of even the roast beef to $2.50 if bought during their 2 for $5 promotions.
