It's the birth of the McDLT! (The death came when they outlawed the styrofoam containers.)

I worked at McDonald’s in 97 and that’s the year they got rid of the holding bins. Before that , we would make like 20 cheeseburgers and put them in the “bin” until they were sold. If they stayed in there too long they were discarded as waste. McDonald’s didn’t cook everything to order like they do now. They only cooked special requests or items to order.

“A lot” is two words. “McDLTs” doesn’t get an apostrophe because it’s plural, not possessive. “Sticker” should be “stickers”. You’re missing a space after the second sentence. “Hot” should be capitalized at the beginning of the next sentence. “Photosticker” is not a word, break it into two. No comma is required in your last sentence. Please consider carefully terminating your comment with a self-congratulatory LOL. Thank you for your consideration.

I just searched this because I saw a "BLT" on a menu and that reminded me of the McDLT. I think they separated the burger patty from the rest of the sandwich so that only the burger patty goes under the heat lamps while the rest of the stuff stays out of the heat and stays cold. I seem to remember a commercial where someone took the top off the box and folded the two halves to put the sandwich together easily.

There's absolutely no reason why outlawing styrofoam should have killed this product. They could have just handed you two separate cardboard containers. If I had to guess, I'd say McDonalds probably found that the large containers and fresh tomato slices weren't practical for their assembly-line approach.

I also often think of biting into a McDLT through the many years but sadly they discontinued them. If they and some customers felt it was a bother to put the 2 halves together which I loved doing, or that the lettuce or tomato may fall out of place by doing so, then why THE DARN didn't they change the McDLT back to the same way they did in the beginning with the 2 halves already joined together? Burger King does it why not McD? There is nothing wrong to have the tomato and lettuce be warmed up in a burger by serving the 2 halves already joined. OR if they want the 2 halves separate again since they sold maybe billions or is it many many millions? Then you mean to tell me they still can't come up with new packaging that will hold and keep the 2 halves separate other than styrofoam that was banned?

It was a great idea. I think they should bring it back. That plus their recent switch to fresh quarter pound patties would make for quite a respectable hamburger. Oh, but they shouldn't be keeping tomatoes in the fridge. Tomatoes lose their flavor after they've been cold for a few hours, so they should always be kept above 50° or so. Once they get cold you can't get the flavor back, and with the kind of tomatoes that use in chain restaurants you want to keep all of the flavor you possibly can.

I think when the environazis went after McDonalds in the 90s for their Styrofoam waste, they decided to stop using it and go to using paper or cardboard boxes to put all their sandwiches in, so that move killed off the McDLT. Which is too bad, because as gimmicky as it seems, it did work pretty well and those burgers tasted a lot fresher than their other lineup.
