Ah so much optimism for the 6R4. Little did they know how tough the WRC would be on the V6.

It was the right concept when conceived, but the turbo car power outputs went up far faster and higher than predicted leaving 400ish BHP (tarmac or gravel spec dependant) underpowered.

Supposedly there was bi turbo and a supercharger/turbocharger versions being drawn up for mid to late 87. But we know how that would turn out

450bhp was seen as what was needed to be competitive in Group B by 1985/86 which the 6R4 never got close too. The best of its engines gave just over 400bhp most of them were around the 380bhp mark. The V6 engine also had a taste for cambelts which wasn't rectified until later in the 86 season and the air filters weren't fine enough which led to dust getting into the engine and wearing away the valves.

@@Marvdogger2 There was definitely a higher concern over reliability in 86. The simple fact was that 6r4 and RS200 showed up too late to have all the issues ironed out. But look at what both would accomplish in Rallycross, plus the 6R4 would go on to be a particular weapon of choice in national rallying for 2 decades afterwards.

@@PescaraProductions I believe Will Gollop's 6R4 was pushing a thousand horses when he was rallycrossing his with two turbos on it.

They spent more time testing it than entering world rally events. It also did not like the Scottish dust!

It got into the cam drive and wrecked the belts.

Does anyone have a big regret in life? Mine is NOT getting a big loan and using my mate's discount, who worked at Rover at the time, and buying a Clubman spec 6R4 for £12,000 from Rover when they were just trying to get rid of stock after Group B was canned...

Well that sure is quite the big regret, i mean a 6R4 for only 12000£ ?! Comparing to what it's worth right now is just a bargain
