Man this was at E&L, right? Anyone have footage of the arcade behind the announcer stand they built when they got rid of the skate park?

so awesome to see this. I used to have a Yokomo and threw a Revtech engine in it. My very first race I demolished everyone. I should have kept the car! smh

If you never raced before and that really was your first time racing, it is unheard of to "demolish" anyone. When you are a new racer a hot motor just slows you down I have never seen ANYONE go from parking lot bashing to their first actual race and do well. Even in Sportsman where everyone is new and nobody can even make it a lap without crashing, until you get used to racing and how different it is than just running in circles on the street, you have to build up muscle memory for steering, throttle control and not to mention car setup. I've been racing on and off for 17 years and not ONCE have I seen someone who was a basher (and thought they were "good") show up for their first race and come anywhere CLOSE to winning. It just doesn't happen. Now some people who have natural talent will start getting good very quickly, within 6 months they can be an ok racer, but nobody without previous race and setup experience just shows up and does well. It NEVER happens!

@@jaylestingi5418 I’m telling you the truth. My father was there by my side. My history teacher was there too. In fact he’s the one who encouraged me to race. I only had a couple weeks of practice on the track. I won $20 for winning. You don’t have to believe me. I’m not going to lose sleep over it.

1985 IFMAR would have been a great event to have been at. Liked and Subscribed.

Hi! Thanks for sharing this. May I ask what the source for the parts starting at about 18:27 is? It's not on the official 60 mins. VHS that I have from that event.

How did they get so much run time? What batteries did they use back then?

Sanyo SCE (?)) 1200 mAh ni-cads. That is all that was available. I think the Mains were only 4 or 5 min instead of 6, and if you look at the last 45 seconds, the cars REALLY slow down. Plus they weren't using crazy low modifieds but they do seem decently quick. Jay Halseys gold tub RC10 4wd prototype honestly looks bettee on track than the Yokomo. Great track! Nice whoops but still smooth. Ranch Pit Shop was THE center of early off road racing.
