My mom drove one exactly like this. My sister and I named her Helga. Almost lost a figure as a child when the passenger door tried to bite my finger off. Those were solid cars. We live just outside of San Francisco. One day mom and dad drove to the city and got stuck on a hill. Dad had the pedal floor. Freaked out my mom and made him sell it. 🤣 I’ll never forget that diesel smell and engine clatter like a farm tractor.

I had an 85 300d in 2001 to 2005. It had 280k miles and didn't burn any oil. Some maintenance was needed periodically but was fairly easy to do. My current 2001 e320 is a real pain in the ass!

These old Mercedes Benz cars are too fantastic and timeless. I wish to have a brand new one for myself now that I'm approaching retirement. It will be too great!!!

I just love the sound of a Mercedes diesel engine purring like this.

I have an identical 1984 300 Turbodiesel to this car, but with 572,000 miles on it and not been overhauled yet. Original transmission too. The secret-change the oil at 3,000 miles and use good 15W-40 Diesel oil. Granted I'm constantly oiling the pavement with a leaking transmission, but runs well. Burns very little engine oil.

Sam Thanks Zein The 1986 to 1995 300D and or E300 diesles are just as good. They ride better and a much more smooth ride. Still, this is a legend! I have a 87 turbo and a 95 non turbo. Both are excellent cars!

The best W123 Diesels got to be 300D naturally aspirated, manual windows and door locks. Simple Blaupunkt radio AM/FM. I wanted to buy one in 1980 but it would cost close to my gross yearly salary, $25,000. Until recently, I could buy a 3-4 year used 550S AWD for $60k. Mechanics say don’t buy it…. Money pit!

I was 12 years old when I learned to drive the car and this was the one. Police caught me driving 2 times, they confiscated it and my father saved the car twice. The police was our neighbor, so he pleaded to my dad since they grew up togather, saying to not let me drive the car. My dad said to the 👮 that they did the same things when they where kids. Next day he caught me with 7 friends inside. I used to put pillows to see the road. Crazy but it made my day and my childhood because not many people can say they have done that.
