1983 Yamaha TT 600 Carburetor Rebuild and Clean...mostly at least
My 1983 Yamaha TT 600 needed a Carburetor Rebuild (is it spelt carburettor or carburetor? even the internet cant tell me)
Truth be told, i was dreading this carburettor rebuild on the TT600. Not because i cant do it, but because i've don't rebuilds before, and i hate them!

Important thing On the float one can see it has to latch after the "head" of the needle. Meaning when float goes down it pulls needle open
I’m such a geek with this stuff, riveted!!

Love it. Nervous times ahead now, will it start or not?!
Main jet with emulsion tube Cheers from south africa
I had exactly the same situation about 4 years ago, I bought a lightly used 1984 TT600 ( $800 Dollars )... Previous owner had the carburetor off and in a box, disassembled in many, many pieces. The same Tang was broken off on the float pin support ! The JB Weld is still holding today.
Tang repair…same problem …Crazy glue lasted 2 years ….JB weld has lasted 4 years….just checked after 4 all good…give’r a go!

Haha, well, it's still holding for now! It's just so strong 😬
Welcome to old bikes mate. I made a comment already but it disappeared 🤷. That carb I’m sure will be shared amongst other Yamaha models of that era. If you search parts diagrams online some websites will suggest other bikes that the parts (such as carb) were used on . This then gives you a basis to widen your parts search . Very useful when looking for obsolete items. For example my bmwf650 shares the same carb model as my Suzuki dr750. Also that needs to be ultrasonic cleaned. Happy to run it through mine if you fancy a run up north 😉

Hi Boozehound, yeah, I've started looking and researching. I've JB welded it for now. I need a few other bits too, so I need to find a solution. A parts washer is solidly on my list to buy, it definitely needs it, cheers for the offer of help, I might well need it at some point 👊🏻😎
JB Steel stick. Let it go right off over a couple of days then carefully grind out the excess if necessary. Good luck.

Hey Daniel, this is my plan I think mate. It's not a structural peice, it simply needs to withstand vibration. Fingers crossed eh 🤞🏻
Try some of that dentist glue you see advertised on Insta. The stuff that sets using blue light. Extremely strong for all applications. Good luck.

Hmm, not seen that advertised, but I can imagine the stuff you mean. Will check it out, thanks 👍🏻
I used a company called yambits when restoring dt125lc , they do list tt600 in their product list. Might be worth a call.

Get it welded by an ally welder
Same carb on the SRX 600 which I was working on yesterday - gave up on the filter without having a spare. Where did you get the service kit and do you know its part number?

I got the service kit from a German company, selling on EBay. This is the link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354146601918?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=g4gh5mwoqru&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=3ZHRwbBUTh2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

@@lightweightadv Many thanks. Doesn't list the SRX but I'm sure it's the same apart from remote choke.
I love mucking about with carbetooters, by the way do you hold the national collection of Cobwebs? they're spectacular.

That set is like a set from Jurassic Park mate, I'm surprised not to have seen a pterodactyl in the corner to be honest
I’d probably look to see if you can find an alternative carb that might fit. You might drop lucky and find something cheaper?

Hey Ian, yeah, I looked. The Carbs are few and far between, simply due to the age of the bike. Both TT and XT Carbs cost more than is viable at the moment. I'm going to use JB and see what's what, at least for now 👌🏻

JB is a good shout but that may take up valuable capacity within the float bowl if not kept to a minimum. Fuel level within the float bowl is critical.
Ahhhh, gutted for you mate. It’s a right b@$tard when tiny things scuppers the job. Whack some JB or metal weld on it and if that fails get a new carb! Good luck 🤞

Ah man, thanks dude. I'm gonna JB weld it and see what's what I think. Worst case, a replacement, but we'll see 😎
