The second best era after the golden era for me. These guys still had the beautiful physiques of the 70's guys with maybe a bit more size and definitely more conditioned. Paris and DeMey are definitely two of my favorites. Ralf was huge and you can tell Arnold worked with him on posing.

Berry looked great, better than those today, and his only weakness was , perhaps, in the back. Bob was just beautiful. The face and looks can also go a long way.

The physiques of these guys is, too me, real bodybuilding. I know a lot of people will not agree with me, but the posing of DeMey and Paris is what real bodybuilding posing should be. Some of the pros, like Kai Greene, though, their posing is entertaining, they look more like male strippers on stage than professional bodybuilders. I like Paris but DeMey should have won that show.

After being blown away by the 1983 NPC Nationals, seeing Demey for the first time on stage with Paris that year was the icing on the cake. That was an amazing year. I was more impressed by Demey and so was my circle of bb friends. Paris was great but there were a number of guys at that time in the US who had similar size and symmetry....guys people today have never heard of, ie Rory Leidelmeyer. Those who say Paris and Demey lack size...comical. They were monsters in the off season.

@@naturalolympia Yes John he was 1.80cm which is 6 foot. But some sites like THE GREATEST PHYSIQUES have him down as 5 10". He was 6 feet and 215--225 competition weight. A beautiful man and physique. And where bodybuilding needs to go back to. Today they look like lab experiments. Even you had a better physique John at your best than any of these guys today. It's all gone wrong since GH and INSULIN came onto the sport. Terribly wrong. Today physiques have no personality. Just big. And bloated mid sections. We want the more classic look back. Mass with class. REEVES ARNOLD SERGIO MENTZER ZANE SAMIR HANEY PARIS That's what real bodybuilding is all about. Once a man goes over 250lbs at under 6 foot tall. Which most bodybuilders are. Something has to give. And that something is the proportion and flow of the physique. No bodybuilder should ever have a waist over 34". Never. Arnold's waist was 34". But he was 6 2" with a 57 inch chest So he still had the classic look. It's gone wrong. It really has.

His conditioning was perhaps the best I've ever seen for a show. He peaked perfectly. I think his posing was a little subpar, though. He didn't hold many poses long enough and some of his transitions were a little clunky. I actually believe that's what dropped him to second.

Moeller was only 6'6" at his prime but still a huge blonde giant to behold, towering over the rest. Nevertheless, the top 6 line-up represents the physical beauty and perfection that can only come from superior genetics. These guys were all tall (Chavez-6', Janatsch-6', Paris-5'11", Kainrath-6'2.5, DeMey-6'1"), with good looks---muscle beasts with full heads of hair, proportional body parts, and incredible strength ---things you don't find that often nowadays among bodybuilding champs.
