I'm watching this looking for myself! So long ago!

I activally had to do this same thing! My horse tripped on the downhills, I was hanging from his neck but he got me out of penalty zone so I could remount. My horse was awesome!!!

The sport has changed so much, but what an interesting piece of history!

Watching this in 2020 realizing the advances in Equipment, Safety, and horse technology are astonishing!!

I couldn't even watch the full video because of how abusive the riders were to the poor horses and what makes it worst the spectators didn't even know what they were talking about some of the abusive things in this video the spectators didn't even pick up they just thought it was normal.

hate they way they used to smack their horses :(

Horse riding back then was sooo abusive and cruel. to be honest I don't think the riders really cared about the horse they only really cared about the fame and money when they win so that's why they keep on smacking and kicking the poor horses!!!!! : (

Disagree entirely. There was very little money OR fame to be had in eventing. This is an event in Gawler, Australia , and Ithese riders never made a mark on the international circuit. The great international riders of those days, people like Lucinda Prior Palmer,Virginia Leng and Ian Stark had much smaller strings then most eventers do today and spent more time on each horse. Thier horsemastership in the stables was better. Just compare the bitting to now - many more rode in simple snaffles and a running martingale. Today bits are far more elaborate, and not the better for it. Riders also did much more hunting and were better at getting horses fit.

Abuse is still happening, behind the scenes; top level dressage abuse with lack of penalties for behind the vertical abuse and accepting lame horses to compete. Top level judging should be about the relationship between the rider and the horse, not about money.

Seamus marwood 😡😡😡 unbelievable how his beating the poor Horse!!!! I was Just afraid of the jump....I really Hope Karma will punish him!!!

so glad riders lose out now for reckless riding, tired horses, thrashing them and can't remount.
