This is by far the best instructional video out there for this. Bravo! My only question... did you mistake inch lbs for ft lbs on the head bolts? I think when you dis the fuel pump side, you said 30 inch lbs. It's ft lbs correct?

Thanks Jayme, glad it was helpful. You are correct at 31:37 I referenced torquing the six 10mm head bolts to 40 inch pounds and I did mean foot pounds. The one 6mm bolt should be 7 -10 ft lbs.

Having done valve lash, timing belts when I did the water pump, rebuild the carbs and everything.I'm about to do a head gasket at least I hope it's head gasket and this video was great I appreciate it having the torque specs in there makes me quite confident that I'll be able to do my head gaskets without issue. I super appreciate it. Thank you.

If the valve covers are off and you can see them moving its fairly easy to follow them through the cycles. Here's a few links that might be helpful, let know if this answers your question.

Thanks Mark. this is a step by step I needed for a job I have to tackle on my 83. I followed your fork seal replacement video and had great success because of it. Thank you once again. Naturally I'll do the same for this head gasket job. Unfortunately I have as much coolant as oil in my expansion tank. surprisingly no smoke, white or blue is burning out the pipes. with the little knowledge i have on this subject I'm guessing, like yours was, the oil has breached the gasket between the oil and water side. do you think the water pump is still function as it should pushing oil through the system? i ran it for a month before i realized the gasket had an issue and the temps were normal. cheers and thanks for the great videos!

Is that Vesrah brand a pretty good brand as compared to Honda?? Does the complete kit come with valve seals and the o-rings needed for the head? great video!! collecting parts right now to do this. THANKS

First time I've used them, but they are also made in Japan and were as good as the OEM I've used. To be honest I don't remember if the kit included everything, I think it did but I listed all the parts I used in my comments under the video.

The VG-195 Vesrah kit includes all the necessary engine gaskets, O-rings and valve guide oil seals to rebuild a complete engine. The other parts list in the description above are the parts I purchased to complete my job. You can google the other parts to see what the are, but mainly what you will need are the oil seals and O-rings list above and a Vesrah Top End Gasket Kit - GL1100 VG-595.

Mark I'm sorry for the 20 questions lol, but.....did you remove and re seal the core plugs behind the cam in the head, if so what sealer did you use? Also you mentioned silicone to hold o rings in, exactly what kind did you use. I basically have almost this whole bike apart now and I trust your opinion

  • @mrmarkg8564

I did not remove any core plugs and I used an o-ring silicone grease to hold the o-rings.

You had commented about oil pouring out of your timing belt cover, I assume you figured it out by now, but the oil seal on the rocker would be where I'd look first. I should only have to pull the timing belt cover to verify, you won't need to pull the head for that just the rocker assembly.

@@mrmarkg8564 yes the oil seal on the cam is leaking, however, it was chocolate milk, so now I'm pretty sure it's the water pump situation happening, I just picked up the bike, it sat for a long long time, indoors, but wasn't ridden

No I didn't, was pressed for time. Will likely pull them to do the valves eventually, no issues with oil burning yet.
