Date: November 26, 1983 | Venue: Rupp Arena (Lexington, Kentucky) | Attendance: 24,012

Kentucky came into the 1983-1984 season with a 23-8 record and a loss to Louisville in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in the previous season. The Cardinals finished the previous season with a 32-4 record and a Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament. So the Wildcats faced the Cardinals in consecutive games, their final game in 1982-1983 and their first game in 1983-1984.
By the way, this was the first regular-season game between Kentucky and Louisville since January 21st, 1922, 61 years of hate and rivalry. Add the fact that both teams were ranked in the top 6 of the Preseason AP Poll and the matchup was supposed to be a game for the ages.
But the Wildcats fed off the energy from the crowd and dominated the intra-state rival from start to finish. The Wildcats had a convincing 15 point lead at halftime, 35-20, and padded the lead by outscoring the Cardinals 30-24 in the second half en route to a 21 point blowout of the hated rivals, 65-44. That game remains as the largest margin of victory that Kentucky has had against an opponent ranked in the top 10 of the AP Poll in Rupp Arena history. The Wildcats finished the 1983-1984 season with a 29-5 record, a #3 ranking in the final AP Poll, and a trip to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals finished the season with a 24-11 record and a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky’s Leading Scorer: Jim Master, 19 points
Louisville’s Leading Scorer: Mark McSwain, 10 points
Stat Of The Game: Kentucky made over 5 times as many free-throws as Louisville attempted. The Wildcats were 27 of 36 (75%) from the charity stripe while the Cardinals were just 2 of 5 (40%).

Bowie didn't score a lot in this game, but his defense was impeccable all game long, and his passing for a man his size was spectacular in this game. Not often you see a 7'1" big man move his feet on defense the way Bowie did in this game or make those kind of passes, and he also took care of a lot of the other intangibles that a team needs to win a game like this too. Big Sam overall had a terrific game that day! GO CATS!!

Horrendous second half shooting against Georgetown in the Final four cost them a final with Houston

@@rbryant100 , agreed 110%. They came out and punched a cocky Georgetown in the nose right out of the gate. Almost couldn't miss. 2nd-half was unfortunately it's own episode of the Twilight Zone. They went nearly 10 minutes into the 2nd-half before Dicky Beal finally scored their fist basket of the half. Georgetown was just not a team you could afford to go nearly 10 minutes of any half against without scoring. Watched the game from the middle of the desert in a little range camp called Oro Grande Range(the T-shirt reads 30 miles from water, 2 feet from hell.) Roughly 90+ miles back east to El Paso, Texas and roughly 110 miles west to Las Cruises, New Mexico. Watched on a little cigarette lighter TV with a makeshift antenna run from a RATT Rig(Radio Teletype Rig). I was heartbroken at how badly the 2nd-half of that game went for the Cats.

Only reason they made it to the final 4 was because they got to play the regionals in corrupt arena.

Wish Bowie didn't have leg problems, he would have definitely been top 20-15 centers in NBA history

They went to the final 4 that year 83-84; Bowie came back that season. I think they would have won it all in the 82-83 had he played.

Bowie was healthy that whole season. Problem for UK in that Georgetown game was the entire UK front line got punked by Ewing and Graham.

Bowie straight up dominated this game. Blocks, steals and a couple of the illest dimes you will ever see from a big man. This is while he was rusty.

Totally clean block by Billy Thompson on UK’s first possession. Typical UK “home court advantage”.

Yes it was but loserville has had calls on their home court too. Didn't make no difference in the game. I will say this this was a UK team that should have won it all that year but Joe B played that grind it out style instead of running like the 78 team did
