I had this very same bike. Same color. In 1982 I bought it in San Diego. My buddy had a Suzuki GS850. Just got back from a west Pac Cruise with 30 days leave. Florida bound! Helluva ride and great memories. Loved that machine! Not 1 problem. Ever in 3 yrs of steady riding.

Got one cousin borrow it about 3 years ago see and ride when I see him rode it all over country has over 50.000 miles still runs great still won't sell to cousin he riding my back up Bike LOVE that YAMAHA

These were great looking and performing bike for sure.

The":computer" on the XJs is not controlling anything with the engine. It's only there for a check list when you start the bike. It will tell you if you have a burned out taillight or something is wrong before you ride it. I completely turned mine into a bobber, getting rid of that computer, speedo, tach housing and replaced it with one off of an older CB350 Honda. It did not change anything with how the bike runs. Also, the Seca version of this same bike has a larger back wheel/tire setup and is interchangeable with the Maxim wheel, which is fatter and smaller diameter. I use my Seca rear wheel for longer trips so it keeps the RPMs lower and gets better mileage. If I want to take shorter trips and get better performance, I just swap out the back wheel for the Maxim wheel. It runs like a cat on fire then!!

Have or had one cousin borrow it a year ago seen it twice rode it once total original with trunk bought it 98 7000 miles on it $900 got 33000 new jets only problem great bike and I think best beginner bike love it

Wow I had this exact same motorcycle. I bought it used in 1991 and rode for almost 20 years before I started having issues with it passing the smog test (which they don’t do here anymore) among other things. It was very high tech for the time. I had a lot fun on it, good times. Did you end up selling it?

Technically yes. But it was about as you can get. This was a great bike. It ended up in California.
