Also Buddy Arrington was fifth in the standings, mainly from leading laps under caution and staying consistent in finishes which was good for an independent team. And of course the banjo music that networks used to play for NASCAR races...

Everyone loved ESPN back then. They weren’t full of themselves

Yes it was because TBS broadcast from Richmond from 1983 to 1995 and ESPN came back in 1996

I believe this was the last Richmond Cup to be televised on ESPN until 1996.

1:36:09 the next 3 or so minutes might be the find of the year.

Kyle Petty DID win his first race at Richmond, but it wasn't in 1986...it was the RC race in '82. Who knew?

This is missing the end of the race, the last maybe 75 laps

1988 the current facility was rebuilt on the same property as this track. Just expanded it to current configuration. Richard Petty drove the bulldozer after the spring 1988 race tearing up the first bit of asphalt.

@@andersoz80 I wish they hadn’t. They should have put the dirt back instead, this place was PERFECT for that. Couldn’t wait to see these races back then and the tight racing that went with it
